Assistant Safety Coordinator

Gribbins Specialty Group , a family-owned contractor serving the industry since 1985, is hiring an Assistant Safety Coordinator based in Indianapolis, Indiana. This development-focused role supports the Safety Director and safety team across mechanical insulation and scaffolding projects within industrial and commercial environments. As an integral member of the safety team, this position offers the opportunity to gain practical field experience while supporting employee safety and operational excellence. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Support the safety team with routine jobsite visits, safety observations, inspections, and follow up on identified hazards or concerns. Learn and apply company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and jobsite expectations under the direction of the Safety Director and other safety team members. Promote a strong safety culture by encouraging awareness, participation, and open communication with employees and supervisors. Assist with SafetyHQ reporting, tracking, documentation, and employee support as needed. Help prepare, organize, and maintain safety records, reports, training documentation, inspection forms, and related materials. Participate in incident review and follow up by helping gather facts, photos, statements, and other documentation needed to support root cause review and corrective actions. Assist with safety training preparation and support, including topics such as Confined Space Entry, LOTO, Fall Protection, Equipment Operation, and First Aid/CPR. Conduct work observations to help identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and opportunities for coaching or improvement. Build positive working relationships with foremen, field employees, project teams, clients, and supervisors. Travel to various jobsites, primarily in Indiana, to provide safety support and gain field experience. Perform additional assignments as directed by the Supervisor. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's or associate degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Management, Construction Safety, or a related field, or expected completion within the next year. Internship, co-op, construction, manufacturing, industrial, or field experience preferred Valid driver's license and ability to travel to jobsites as needed. Comfortable working in active field, industrial, and commercial jobsite environments. Must successfully pass drug testing, background, and driving record checks, in accordance with company policies and standards. Necessary Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Eager to learn and willing to ask questions. Coachable, dependable, and able to take direction from experienced safety and field leaders. Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust with employees, supervisors, and clients. Practical problem solver who can observe field conditions and communicate concerns professionally. Detail oriented and organized with strong follow-through. Able to manage routine tasks independently while understanding when to ask for guidance. Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.
