Stairways, doorframes, partitions, rafters, cabinetry, siding, and drywall are a few examples of the types of onsite tasks this position is responsible for completing. Carpenters pay great attention to project detail and have a strong understanding of wood and metal properties. Carpenters are also required at various times to do virtually all the carpenter support activities performed by laborers. This is a safety sensitive position.Key ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the assembly and removal of the forms that are used for concrete installationUse assorted hand tools, including ten-pound sledgehammers, shovels, picks, handsaws, skill saws, and drillsBuild and/or install window-frames, doors, doorframes, staircases, stairways, partitions, millwork, trim, siding, drywall, and overall building framesResponsible for ensuring that layout of flooring, roofing, and drywall are leveled and compatibleReads blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully grasp project requirementsEffectively operate small hand and power tools to assist with a variety of worksite projectsResponsible for taking measurements and calculating the size and amount of material neededThis includes cutting, shaping, and smoothing wood or other required materials according to requested measurementsThis also includes constructing forms and chutes for pouring concrete as well as erecting scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above groundLoads, unloads, and identifies building materials, machinery, and toolsDistributes site materials to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specificationsResponsible for ensuring that all materials are properly distributed, and the site is swept and well maintainedPromotes a safe work environment and communicates jobsite hazardsThis includes helping to secure the jobsite at the end of business each day and verifying that all site materials are properly storedQualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDValid Driver's LicenseFollow safe work practices in accordance with the Hensel Phelps safety and health programMust be able to take initiative and ask questionsPossess a keen attention to detail and be able to follow instructionsWorkers must provide their own safety footwearMust be able to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers and stakeholdersStrong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skillsMust be reliable and punctualThis includes having reliable transportation and consistent work attendancePreferred QualificationsExperienced in construction layout, blueprint reading and shop drawing readingOSHA 10 CertificationCPR & First Aid CertificationPhysical RequirementsHeavy Work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and field activity.Walking - The person in this position needs to frequently move about the jobsite. Sometimes operates a computer or tablet and other office machinery, such as a calculator and phone. The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of topics related to office and field administration. Constantly reads written communications and views mail submissions. Will also need to read and understand blueprints, load charts, and take/verify field measurements.Climbing – Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding and ramps at various heights.Working from heights – the person must be comfortable and able to work from heights for extended amounts of time.Balancing – Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling and to walk, stand or crouch.Stooping – Bending the body downward and forward by the spine at the waist.Reaching – Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction for various lengths of time.Grasping – Needs to apply pressure to an object with fingers and palm regularly.BenefitsHensel Phelps provides generous benefits for hourly craft professionals.
