About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Duration: 26-week contract Shift: Full-time day/night variable shifts (3x12s scheduled as needed + every other weekend) Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Two years of acute hospital experience, one year of Emergency Department experience License: Valid Registered Nurse Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (must be AHA or RQI) Must-Have: Experience in providing high-quality compassionate care in emergency settings Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies nursing theory, technical, and communication skills to deliver compassionate care. The ED RN assesses patient needs and identifies urgent or emergent care priorities. They collaboratively provide direct care, apply appropriate interventions, and evaluate patient progress. The ED RN demonstrates skill in using various invasive and non-invasive procedures to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations. They utilize principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain, discomfort, and safety. The ED RN assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups and their families. They connect with patients and families during triage to identify the initial management and assign priority of care. Establishing rapport with patients, they address comfort needs, listen carefully, and provide frequent updates. The ED RN conducts a primary assessment of critical needs, documents major deviations from the norm, and identifies necessary steps or interventions. They use direct observation, patient/family interviews, and data to conduct secondary assessments and identify contributing factors. The ED RN reassesses patients to identify responses to treatment and changes in condition, responding appropriately. They encourage mutual trust and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. The ED RN teaches and delegates tasks consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice. They understand personal responsibility in safeguarding public safety through infection prevention strategies. The ED RN prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments, making appropriate referrals for post-emergency care. They teach patients what is needed for continued care and healing at home, assessing learning styles and maximizing understanding. The ED RN seeks to understand what is important to the patient and family, acknowledging them as the central focus of care and services. They create a Healing Environment as a key element of professional nursing practice. The ED RN keeps patients and significant others informed of the process of care, anticipating their needs. They maintain awareness of the patient's condition throughout the emergency department visit and update communication boards as necessary.
