Staff Accountant

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Staff Accountant for a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity that is fully on-site and offers the opportunity to play an important role within the organization's Finance & Administration team. POSITION OVERVIEW Our client is seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support daily accounting operations, month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, payroll, and financial reporting. This position will work closely with the Controller and HR team to maintain accurate financial records, process payroll, and support audits and other financial initiatives. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a mission-driven nonprofit environment. PERKS $70,000-$75,000 annual salary , depending on experience Full-time, direct-hire opportunity with a respected nonprofit organization Excellent benefits package Broad, hands-on accounting responsibilities with exposure to payroll, reporting, audits, and budgeting Collaborative, mission-driven work environment RESPONSIBILITIES Support daily and monthly accounting operations, including account reconciliations, journal entries, reimbursements, and maintaining general ledger accuracy. Process bi-weekly payroll and related reporting, including timesheet verification, benefit and union deductions, retirement transmissions, and final checks. Partner with HR to ensure accurate employee setup and changes, payroll deductions, accruals, reporting, and resolution of payroll discrepancies. Prepare bank reconciliations, fixed asset and depreciation schedules, prepaid expense schedules, and monthly financial reports. Assist with month-end and year-end close, external audits, budget preparation, and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and workflows. Support departmental and organizational special projects and other accounting duties as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Strong foundation in accounting principles and GAAP, with experience supporting general ledger accounting and financial operations. Hands-on experience with account reconciliations, payroll processing, financial reporting, and/or month-end close. Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize competing projects. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and ADP Workforce Now is strongly preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with employees, managers, and cross-functional teams and work successfully in a fully on-site environment. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The salary range for this position is $70,000-$75,000 annually, depending on experience , along with an excellent benefits package.
