Grants Coordinator 1 - Institute of Arctic Biology

Responsibilities We’re looking for someone with strong attention to detail who can effectively prioritize and manage a fast‑paced, dynamic workload. It’s important to be diligent and follow tasks through to completion, especially under tight deadlines. The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver who is comfortable researching and interpreting rules, policies, and complex information. A solid foundation in math is also important to support accounting‑related tasks, along with a basic understanding of automated accounting systems. Strong communication skills are key—clearly explaining and summarizing information for a variety of audiences is essential. Experience with tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and similar platforms is expected, particularly the ability to work confidently with spreadsheets, email, and calendars. This role also requires the ability to analyze complex, multifaceted issues while working closely with IAB PIs and staff. Maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive information is critical, as is providing a high level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders. Familiarity with regulations and guidelines, such as the OMB Uniform Guidance, the CFR, GAAP, UA Statewide accounting procedures, UA BOR policies, and OGCA policies, is important, especially as they relate to managing restricted funds. Experience with grant proposals, awards, and restricted funding processes is also highly valuable. Qualifications One year of college coursework in Accounting or a related field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years experience as a fiscal technician in a restricted‑fund environment, working familiarity with Banner financial screens. Position Details This position is located on the Troth Yeddah campus in Fairbanks, and flexible on‑site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full‑time, non‑exempt staff position complete with a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
