IT Security Operations Analyst

Position: IT Security Operations Analyst

Location: Remote-PST

Duration: 12 Months

Looking for an IT Security Operations Analyst contractor for 6 months assignment with option to be extended up to 1 year. The position is remote within USA, but the person needs to be willing to work in CA hours from 8:00 am to 5:00pm PST.

Please find below a brief description of our expectations:

Duties:

• Monitor security tools and related inputs for alerts / potential security events, including AWS security monitoring tools, SIEM alerts, security operations email inbox, and security group requests / incidents in our ticketing system.
• Administer and maintain one or SIEM and threat detection systems and / or processes
• Perform security incident detection, response, containment, resolution, and recovery activities as assigned including ticket management, security event analysis, data collection, packet analysis, and etc.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required Skills / Experience:

• Deep forensic / security incident response analysis of complex business systems required
• Experience using AI as an engineering tool to help with data analysis preferred
• Background / education in data science preferred
• 8 or more years of experience working on an IT security operations / incident response / engineering team in an analyst / engineer related role
• Knowledge of security best practices across multiple platforms, including Linux, Windows, VMWare, and Cisco IOS
• Strong knowledge of client and server operating system security tools, capabilities, configurations, logging, and patching, including Windows, Linux, and MacOS.
• Working knowledge of public-key cryptography, including best practices and technologies for protecting data at rest and in transit
• Direct experience with information technology incident response, including incident management, security event analysis, packet analysis, security
• Creating and maintaining thorough and technical security documentation for IT systems, architecture, and environments
• Committed to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to manage multiple concurrent work assignments
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, including the ability to communicate security risks to both IT administrators and non-technical staff.
• Excellent analytical, design, and organizational skills, with strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Skills / Experience:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in CS, IT, CIS, or a computer related field is desired, ideally in a data science program. Professional certifications (CISSP, Security+, CCNA, etc.) will weigh in the candidate's favor
• Strong scripting abilities (PowerShell / Python / Bash / Perl / etc.)
• Working knowledge of security audit processes and related expectations
