Job Summary:
The Speech Language Pathologist provides specialized therapy services across multiple care settings including inpatient, outpatient, long term care, and swing bed. The role involves assessment and treatment of patients with a variety of communication and swallowing disorders such as dementia, aphasia, apraxia, and progressive neurological diseases. The clinician is expected to deliver high-quality care with clinical independence and adaptability, supporting patients from infants to adolescents and adults.
Responsibilities:
The Speech Language Pathologist provides specialized therapy services across multiple care settings including inpatient, outpatient, long term care, and swing bed. The role involves assessment and treatment of patients with a variety of communication and swallowing disorders such as dementia, aphasia, apraxia, and progressive neurological diseases. The clinician is expected to deliver high-quality care with clinical independence and adaptability, supporting patients from infants to adolescents and adults.
Responsibilities:
- Assess and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders across inpatient, outpatient, long term care, and swing bed settings.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and clinical best practices.
- Provide therapy for patients with dementia, aphasia, apraxia, progressive neurological diseases, and other related conditions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and optimize outcomes.
- Document patient progress and treatment plans accurately using Epic electronic medical records.
- Maintain clinical competence and stay current with best practices in speech-language pathology.
- Cover multiple settings as needed, including outpatient, acute care, and long term care.
- Active BLS certification.
- Current NBCOT certification.
- Valid Alaska state license for Speech Language Pathology.
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in speech-language pathology.
- Ability to treat patients across the lifespan including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
- Proficiency with patient care documentation in electronic medical record systems (Epic preferred).
- Experience with dementia management and IDDSI protocols.
- Clinical experience treating multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, coma stimulation, anoxia, developmental delay, autism, and cleft palate.
- Comfort and skill in treating patients in all four care settings: inpatient, outpatient, long term care, and swing bed.
- Ability to work independently and transition smoothly between different patient care environments.
- Position requires flexibility to float within scope to outpatient, acute care, and long term care settings as needed.
- No weekend or on-call requirements.
- Facility provides traveler housing with restrictions: no pets allowed, typically single occupancy, and housing must be cleaned upon departure to avoid fees.
- Travelers must have permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility.
- Parking is free at the facility.
- Variable schedule with 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts.
- Guaranteed 72 hours every two weeks, with potential to be called off for one 8-hour shift per two-week period.
- Open to accommodating block scheduling.
