Veterinary Neurology Nurse

Pinnacle Veterinary Specialists is seeking an experienced and compassionate Veterinary Neurology Nurse to join our specialty team. This position is ideal for a veterinary nurse who enjoys advanced patient care, working closely with specialty clinicians, and caring for patients with complex neurologic conditions. Our Neurology team provides comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of neurologic disorders, including seizures, intervertebral disc disease, spinal cord injuries, vestibular disease, neuromuscular disorders, and other neurologic emergencies.

As a Veterinary Neurology Nurse, you will work closely with our neurologist and veterinary team to provide exceptional nursing care from initial evaluation through diagnostics, treatment, and recovery.

Responsibilities include:

• Assist the neurologist with patient examinations, diagnostics, procedures, and treatments.
• Obtain thorough patient histories and perform comprehensive nursing assessments.
• Provide nursing care for patients with complex neurologic and medical conditions.
• Monitor neurologic status and recognize changes that require immediate attention.
• Assist with advanced diagnostic procedures, including MRI, CT, radiographs, CSF collection, and other neurologic diagnostics.
• Prepare patients for procedures and ensure appropriate monitoring before, during, and after anesthesia.
• Perform anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring for neurologic procedures and diagnostics.
• Manage IV catheters, fluid therapy, CRIs, medications, and other treatments as directed.
• Provide appropriate pain management and supportive care.
• Assist with patient positioning and safe handling of neurologically compromised patients.
• Recognize changes in patient status and communicate concerns promptly to the veterinarian.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
• Educate and communicate with clients regarding patient care, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Collaborate with nurses, technicians, assistants, veterinarians, and other specialty departments.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment and procedure environment.
• Participate in ongoing education and contribute to a teaching-focused environment.

The ideal candidate is a confident veterinary nurse who is comfortable caring for medically complex patients and working in a specialty environment.

You do not have to have prior Neurology experience to apply, just a strong interest to learn.

Qualifications and skills:

• Veterinary Technician/Nurse experience, preferably in a specialty or emergency setting.
• Comfortable assisting a specialty veterinarian with procedures and diagnostics.
• Anesthesia experience is required.
• Ability to safely induce, maintain, and recover patients from anesthesia.
• Strong understanding of anesthetic monitoring and patient safety.
• Excellent technical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to recognize subtle changes in neurologic and anesthetic patients.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in a busy specialty environment.

Our brand-new facility opened in August 2021 and houses emergency/critical care, internal medicine, neurology, surgery, radiology and cardiology. We have digital radiography, full in house Idexx lab systems, Siemens blood gas analyzer, a GE 16 Slice CT scanner and a mobile MRI unit.

• PVS is located at 600 Evergreen Drive in Glen Mills, PA which is a southern suburb of Philadelphia. We are located across from the Costco in Glen Mills and near the Brinton Lake Shopping complex allowing easy access to restaurants and shopping. • Tuesday -Friday (8a-6p)

Requirements:

• Has a CVT or 2+ years of experience in a comparable emergency and/or specialty hospital. Recent CVT graduates with strong skills may be considered.
• Has a strong anesthesia foundation and is comfortable managing anesthetized and sedated patients.
• Enjoys working across multiple departments and specialty services.
• Is comfortable assisting with ER procedures and patient care.
• Is confident handling discharges and communicating with clients.
• Can prioritize and adapt quickly as hospital needs change.
• Is comfortable working with complicated and critically ill patients.
• Can transition easily between anesthesia, nursing, procedures, discharges, and general hospital support.
• Is dependable and willing to stay engaged when cases run late.
• Communicates effectively with doctors, technicians, assistants, and client service teams.
• Is approachable, supportive, and willing to help teammates.
• Has a strong work ethic and takes pride in being a reliable hospital resource.
• Has a desire to continue growing their nursing and anesthesia skillset.

Physical Requirements:

• Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills
• Fine motor skills necessary to utilize hospital equipment, syringes, computers, surgical instruments, monitors, and diagnostic equipment
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods and kneel or work on the floor as needed
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. independently and support up to 80 lbs. with assistance.
