We are looking for a detail-oriented Inventory Accountant to support inventory and product cost accuracy for a retail organization in Coppell, Texas. This Long-term Contract position will work closely with finance, operations, and supply chain partners to maintain reliable inventory records, evaluate cost activity, and contribute to timely financial close processes. The role is well suited for someone who can interpret inventory data, identify discrepancies, and translate findings into clear financial insight.

Responsibilities:

• Record and reconcile inventory-related journal entries, including adjustments, reserves, and other stock-related accounting activity.

• Review cost of goods sold and product cost movements to help ensure accurate financial reporting and inventory valuation.

• Examine inventory variances such as shrinkage, write-offs, and obsolete stock, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.

• Account for landed and capitalized inventory costs, including freight, duties, and similar expenditures tied to product acquisition.

• Compare inventory subledger balances to the general ledger and resolve inconsistencies in a timely manner.

• Assist with physical inventory events and cycle count programs by validating results and supporting follow-up analysis.

• Contribute to month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to inventory accounting and cost reporting.

• Prepare reporting that highlights inventory trends, cost behavior, and operational performance metrics.

• Help maintain adherence to internal controls, accounting guidelines, and audit documentation requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of accounting experience in inventory, cost accounting, or a manufacturing, distribution, or retail environment.
• Working knowledge of inventory valuation methods, cost of goods sold analysis, variance review, and capitalized inventory costs.
• Hands-on experience with cost accounting concepts such as standard costing and inventory cost analysis.
• Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyze large data sets and support reconciliations efficiently.
• Experience using ERP or comparable accounting systems to manage inventory and financial data.
• Ability to partner effectively with cross-functional teams and investigate discrepancies with a high level of accuracy.
