About NYLAG Founded in 1990, NYLAG is a leading civil legal services organization combating economic, racial, and social injustice by advocating for people experiencing poverty or in crisis. Its services include free civil legal services, financial empowerment, impact litigation, policy advocacy, and community partnerships. NYLAG serves individuals and families whose legal and financial crises are often rooted in racial inequality through more than 150 community sites and a Mobile Legal Help Center, impacting over 129,000 people last year. Job Description NYLAG seeks to sponsor third‑year law students, judicial law clerks, and recent law graduates for Skadden and Equal Justice Works public interest law fellowships starting in the Fall of 2027. Responsibilities Consider projects that fulfill NYLAG’s mission and that are timely in responding to emerging community needs. Work closely with applicants who are sponsored to develop a proposal once selected. Support projects that expand the number of individuals impacted by services, propose new models of service that center NYC communities, advance equity, deepen breadth of services, identify opportunities for inter‑agency collaboration, and/or leverage impact litigation to dismantle systemic barriers. Ensure proposals include a combination of direct client services, community education, advocacy, pro‑bono involvement, and/or impact litigation, and may leverage technology, innovative engagement models, or the Mobile Legal Help Center. Qualifications Applicants must be rising third‑year law students or recent law school graduates eligible for the fellowship programs for which they seek NYLAG sponsorship. Applicants must be passionate about NYLAG’s mission and dedicated to advancing social, racial, and economic justice through legal interventions and advocacy. The current salary range for this position is $91,073 - $94,552.
