Inaugural Program Director - Emergency Medicine Residency

We are in search of a distinguished and forward-thinking physician leader to take on the role of Inaugural Program Director for a new Emergency Medicine Residency Program . This position presents a remarkable chance to create, establish, and oversee a residency program within a rapidly growing academic health system and a newly formed osteopathic medical school.

Our organization is transforming into a regional academic medical center, expanding its array of ACGME-accredited residency programs alongside the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine. The introduction of an Emergency Medicine residency is a vital addition to our evolving graduate medical education framework, aligning with our mission to address community and regional workforce demands. The inaugural Program Director will be instrumental in defining the program's vision, curriculum, and culture while contributing to the institution's broader academic objectives.

We provide healthcare to a large and varied patient demographic across Western Maryland and the adjacent tri-state area.

• Over 70,000 visits to the Emergency Department each year

• A service area encompassing more than 200,000 patients in Washington County and nearby regions in West Virginia and Pennsylvania

• Approximately 4,000 trauma cases annually

• Transitioning from a Level III to a Level II Trauma Center

• The largest employer in Western Maryland

This high-volume, high-acuity setting provides an outstanding foundation for training in Emergency Medicine and program development.

• Lead the creation, ACGME accreditation, and execution of a new Emergency Medicine Residency Program

• Establish a program focused on clinical excellence, innovation, and community-centered care

• Align training with a bustling, high-acuity emergency department and an expanding trauma program

• Act as a key leader within the Graduate Medical Education framework

• Design and submit the ACGME accreditation application for initial program approval

• Develop curriculum, evaluation systems, and clinical training experiences in accordance with ACGME standards

• Recruit and mentor faculty, residents, and members of the program leadership team

• Encourage an educational atmosphere that supports all ACGME competency domains

• Ensure adherence to institutional and ACGME policies and standards

• Collaborate across various specialties, particularly with trauma, critical care, and surgical services

• Encourage scholarly activities, quality improvement, and innovation in emergency care delivery

• MD or DO degree with eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in Maryland

• Current board certification in Emergency Medicine by ABEM or AOBEM

• A minimum of three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience in graduate medical education

• Proven expertise in Emergency Medicine

• Prior experience as a Program Director, Associate Program Director, or core faculty is highly preferred

• Strong understanding of ACGME accreditation standards and residency program operations

• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, build consensus, and develop educational programs

• Commitment to resident education, mentorship, and professional growth
