Job Title: Machinist Helper / General Labor Pool Operator

**Position Summary**

The Machinist Helper / General Labor Pool Operator supports daily shop operations by assisting machinists, performing general labor tasks, and operating manual machinery as trained. This role is essential in maintaining production flow, assisting supervisors, and ensuring quality and safety standards are consistently met. Employees in this position may progress through defined skill levels based on demonstrated competency and performance.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**

* Assist machinists with setup, operation, and general support tasks
* Perform general labor duties as assigned to support operational needs
* Operate manual machines as trained and directed
* Perform basic machine maintenance under the guidance of the Shop Foreman
* Assist supervisors and lead personnel as needed and directed
* Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
* Follow all safety procedures and company policies
* Complete in-process inspection documentation as required
* Perform other duties as assigned

**Education and Experience Requirements**

* High school diploma or equivalent required
* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
* Mechanical aptitude preferred

**Job Level Progression General Labor Pool Operator**

Employees must demonstrate proficiency in each level before advancing. Skills from prior levels must be maintained consistently.

**Orientation Period**
* Must successfully complete testing for all Level #1 skills to advance to Level #1 status

**Level #1 Responsibilities**

* Operate manual lathes efficiently
* Deburr parts accurately and consistently
* Operate abrasive cut-off saw safely and effectively
* Read blueprints and job routers related to sanding and tumbling processes
* Use micrometers and calipers accurately
* Perform basic part inspections
* Produce quality parts with limited supervision
* Follow all safe operating procedures at all times
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area
* Demonstrate pride in workmanship and attention to detail
* Complete in-process inspection sheets as required

**Level #2 Responsibilities**

* Demonstrate consistent positive attitude and leadership qualities
* Perform minor maintenance on manual machines
* Produce quality parts independently using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
* Troubleshoot basic machine issues without supervision
* Perform complex part inspections accurately
* Set up and operate all departmental machines effectively
* Demonstrate broad practical machining knowledge
* Identify department needs and recommend process improvements to reduce scrap and improve efficiency
* Maintain operation of previously set up CNC machines to support continuous production
