Senior Scientist II, R&D Bioinformatics

LGC Group seeks a Senior Scientist II in R&D Bioinformatics to develop algorithms, pipelines, and tools for PCR and NGS-based molecular applications. This senior role involves leading bioinformatics projects across the Diagnostics and Genomics business unit while mentoring internal and external software teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop oligonucleotide design tools and bioinformatics pipelines for qPCR and NGS applications
• Create algorithms and analytical tools for NGS data processing and new product development
• Mentor software development teams on algorithm design and provide scientific guidance
• Build and optimize high-throughput genotyping panels for diverse organism types
• Collaborate with Product Management, Project Management, and R&D teams on new product development and optimization

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, computational biology, genetics, or biology
• 5+ years of technical bioinformatics work experience
• Proficiency in high-level programming languages (Python, Perl, or similar)
• Strong expertise with Unix-based systems, bash scripting, Docker environments, and git version control
• Demonstrated experience with NGS algorithms, computational pipeline development, and genomic data analysis
• Practical knowledge of genome alignment, variant calling, annotation tools, and large-scale genomic datasets
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
