PE/Health Teacher - North Medford High School Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Permanent 1.0 FTE position to begin with the 2026‑27 school year. Salary range pending final budget approval. Job Title: Classroom Teacher Classification: Certified FLSA Status: Exempt Contract: 190 Days Summary: The classroom teacher helps students learn subject matter and/or skills in a positive atmosphere that will develop them as responsible, respectful, and independent learners. This growth and development pertains to the student's academic, social, emotional, and physical needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Professional Preparedness and Growth Instruction reflects a well‑planned and effective methodology. Develop and implement instructional practices and strategies that include multiple assessment methods, support students in meeting rigorous learning goals, and engage and encourage learners to develop a deep understanding of content areas. Understand how learners grow and develop, recognizing variations within and across cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and implement a developmentally appropriate, challenging, and high‑standards learning environment. Make objective, non‑emotional, well‑informed decisions regarding the welfare of students. Instruction reflects adequate and current knowledge of essential skills, literacy promotion, and technology. Improve professional skills through in‑service workshops, district meetings, continuing education, etc. Set goals and participate in cooperative planning with the supervisor. Principles of Teaching and Learning Show respect, consideration, and fairness to students of varying learning levels. Meet the needs of students with special interests, abilities, and learning problems. Give students personal help and positive reinforcement. Challenge students to think and express their thoughts through engaging lessons and activities. Help students set achievement expectations and evaluate their progress. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities. Make it clear to students what they are learning and why. Multi‑Ethnic/Multi‑Cultural Education Include culturally diverse themes in lessons and instruction, including historical or other information about cultures significantly impacting the world, nation, or community. Acknowledge and appreciate cultural diversity and emphasize communication skills that respect all persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, or national origin. Evaluation Plan instruction assessing student progress on state standards. Use tests and/or other evaluative information to plan instructional units and to determine if goals have been met. Update and maintain accurate and complete student progress and development records as required by school, district, state, and federal policies. Consult the principal, specialist, other teachers, and students in evaluating plans, methods, and results. Use instruments and methods that effectively measure students' attainment of learning goals. Make clear to students how they can achieve success in learning and communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and students regarding student achievement and behavior. Classroom Management Develop and implement effective classroom management strategies that provide a safe, secure, and respectful learning environment; positively communicate student behavior expectations; convey reminders, rules, and expectations with consistency and equity. Communication Skills Communicate regularly with parents, students, colleagues, and supervisors in writing and verbally in a professional manner. Actively listen to concerns, problems, or issues and formulate a professional response aligned with core values. Encourage and build strong school‑to‑home and community partnerships. Route or direct parents, students, or patrons to the appropriate person or information when the teacher cannot provide a complete answer. Organizational Responsibilities Cooperate with and support faculty members. Observe the spirit and intent of school rules and regulations. Assume necessary non‑instructional responsibilities. Provide requested data to school and district administration. Maintain accurate student records. Assist with building budgeting. Encourage parent participation in school programs and activities. Share responsibilities with other employees for promoting educational goals and public acceptance of the school system. Marginal Duties and Responsibilities Set up room for activities and clean up afterward. Answer telephones, take questions or messages and forward them to the appropriate person. Assist with school‑wide events. Assist with inventory of textbooks. Assist with in‑home visits. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Must be eligible for or properly licensed by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission for assignment as a teacher. Experience varies depending on assignment. Interpersonal Skills Ability to interact appropriately with teachers, staff, community members, and students. Focus on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, and contributing to a positive team spirit. Language Skills Fluently communicate verbally and in writing in English. Preference may be given to applicants fluent in English and Spanish. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts (discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, etc.) and apply basic algebra, geometry, fractions, and ratios to practical situations. Reasoning Ability Apply common sense to complete instructions provided in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form and handle problems involving several concrete variables. Computer Skills General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use database software, e‑mail, internet software, spreadsheets, teaching software, and word processing software. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Hold current Oregon Teaching Certificate with proper endorsement(s) in assigned subject matter and grade level. Physical Demands Stamina for 8 hours of student instruction and supervision. Use of hands for repetitive motions such as writing and typing. Standing/Walking 3‑6 hours/day and sitting 2‑4 hours/day. Occasional bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs or ladders. Lift/carry up to 40 lbs. Occasional physical interaction with students as required. Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision. Speak clearly to be understood. Emotional stability to work under pressure. Work Environment The work environment is usually low to moderate noise. Employees may be exposed to blood‑borne pathogens, temperature fluctuations, fumes, odors, and dust.
