Title: Procurement and Planning Coordinator Location : Saint Paul, MN Job Type : Permanent / Direct-Hire Compensation : $26.70 - $30.00/hr Industry: Medical Supplies About The Role Our client, a growing organization within the medical device and precision manufacturing industry, is seeking a Procurement and Planning Coordinator to support end-to-end supply chain operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring materials, production schedules, and supplier performance align with customer demand and business objectives. You will collaborate cross-functionally with production, customer service, and internal stakeholders to maintain inventory accuracy, support on-time delivery, and drive continuous improvement initiatives in a regulated manufacturing environment. Job Description The Procurement and Planning Coordinator is responsible for purchasing, supplier management, production planning, scheduling, and inventory control. This role ensures efficient material flow, maintains strong supplier relationships, and supports production operations through accurate planning and proactive issue resolution.
- Lead investigations into supplier quality issues and manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs)
- Create, confirm, and track purchase orders to ensure timely delivery of materials and services
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to prevent shortages, delays, or excess stock
- Develop and maintain inventory min/max levels to optimize working capital
- Evaluate supplier performance using metrics such as on-time delivery, responsiveness, and open orders
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and freight arrangements with suppliers
- Support sourcing and onboarding of new suppliers to maintain supply continuity and competitiveness
- Develop and maintain production schedules aligned with customer demand and capacity planning
- Create work orders and production instructions to support manufacturing operations
- Close work orders in the ERP system and ensure accurate production reporting and recordkeeping
- Analyze and resolve discrepancies in production and inventory data
- Investigate inventory variances and implement corrective actions
- Communicate availability of standard and custom products to internal stakeholders
- Provide timely updates on scheduling changes, delays, and capacity constraints
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis, audits, and root cause identification
- Collaborate cross-functionally to meet customer requirements and operational goals
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive information
- Support additional projects and responsibilities as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Effective communication and collaboration skills across departments and with external suppliers
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data reporting tools
- Working knowledge of inventory control, forecasting, and production planning principles
- Experience working with ERP systems such as Epicor, SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite
- Prior experience in a regulated manufacturing or medical device environment
- Demonstrated experience in supplier negotiations, including pricing and logistics
- Familiarity with supplier performance management tools such as scorecards
