Principal Controls Engineer - Advanced Manufacturing Engineering

Medtronic seeks a Principal Controls Engineer to lead automation and control systems development for advanced manufacturing at its North Haven, Connecticut facility. This technical leadership role supports next-generation medical device and robotic-assisted surgical technology production through cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to engineers and system integrators on automation solutions meeting performance and quality standards
- Design, develop, and implement control systems for manufacturing equipment, assembly lines, and material handling
- Lead integration and optimization of PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motion control, vision systems, and industrial networks
- Troubleshoot complex automation issues and perform root cause analysis to improve reliability and performance
- Partner with cross-functional teams on equipment development, qualification, and new product introduction activities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 7+ years relevant experience, or Master's with 5+ years, or PhD with 3+ years
- PLC programming and troubleshooting expertise with Allen Bradley systems
- HMI programming experience with Allen Bradley platforms
- Machine vision systems experience including Cognex In-Sight, VisionPro, and Keyence technologies
- Experience with automated manufacturing equipment, robotics, or motion control systems
- Medical device, pharmaceutical, or regulated manufacturing environment background
