The successful candidate willbe a part of the Consumer Connectivity product portfolio. The Mechanical Engineer willdesign,developandvalidatethe mechanical aspects of electronic products that integratetechnologies such asUSB-PD, USB hub, HDMI, Qi wireless charging, NFC,LED lighting,and GSM. The candidate willprovide innovative solutions and work with cross-functional teams to meet customer-driven, automotive industry specifications.Your Role:Work directly with automotive OEMs and other Tier 1 suppliers to design products that meet customer functional andmechanicalrequirementsDevelop product drawings and oversee and/or createMCAD modelsCreate change documentation for changesUse MCAD programs for developing new componentsComplete peer reviews of designs and design change activitiesWork with supply chain management to provide cost analysis of Bill of Material (BoM) andcomponentcost tradeoffsUse analytical methods to perform simulations to verify operating boundaries and conditions for Worst Case AnalysisConduct detailed benchmarking, competitive and cost-tradeoff analysis for area of responsibilityPerform simulations, worst case circuit tolerance analysis, FMEAs, fault tree analysis and similar design disciplinesPerform bench level testing and prototypingComplete checklists as necessary for following the product development process flowWork with validation team toassistin developing proper equipment and processes for Design Validation (DV) and Product Validation (PV) of productMentor other department Mechanical Engineers in proper practices, industrystandardsand best practicesEnsure compliance with customer specific requirementsCreate and conduct technical presentations to explain and sell new product designsSupport the cross-functional team including software engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, ECAD, MCAD,manufacturing,and SCMYourRequiredBackground(i.e., Must Haves):Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline;ora combination ofAssociatesdegreein a related disciplineand20+ years relevantmechanical design experience5+ years relevant mechanical design experience and candemonstrateabilitiesFamiliarity with product development processincluding:componenttesting / PPAP, functional dimensioning, geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T), dimensional stack-up including statistical applications, design failuremodeand effects analysis (DFMEA)Previousexperience with using MCAD software to develop multi-componentmechanical designsDemonstrated knowledge of proper design methods to meetautomotive thermal, environmental,structural, and appearancerequirementsPreviousexperiencewithdesign for manufacturing(DFM)processPreviousexperience designinginjection moldedplasticcomponentsPreviousexperience designingmachined, cast, and stampedmetal componentsPreviousexperience with tolerance stack-up analysisAbility and willingness to travel as requiredDemonstratedproficiencyusing Microsoft Office (i.e.Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Visio, etc.)Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organizationStrong results-orientation and execution characteristicsExcellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to work with a team.Ability to effectively organize, prioritize andaccomplishmultiple conflicting tasks, make intelligent,timelydecisionsand solve problems independentlyResourcefully innovative and adaptsin a rapidly changing environmentYour Preferred Background (i.e., Nice to Haves):Previousexperience withSolidWorksand Siemens NXMCAD softwarePreviousexperience designingplastic and for 3D printing and other rapid prototyping technologiesPreviousexperience designing, simulating, and testing LED lightingto customer requirementsincluding light pipes anddiffusersPreviousexperience designing, simulating, and testingactive and passive heat dissipationtechnologiesintegrated within a productPreviousexperiencein engineering componentsincludinginductive wireless chargers and magnetsPreviousexperience with electrical contact systems and plating requirementsStrong presence,poiseand persuasiveness toestablisha high levelof credibility quicklyPrivacy Notice - Active Candidates: Aptiv is an equal employment opportunity employer.
