Job Summary The Enhanced Behavior Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for helping clients understand their behaviors, teaching them how to change responses to unfavorable situations, and assisting them in developing healthier coping mechanisms. The DSP creates personalized exercises and homework assignments, supports clients in applying Positive Behavior Support principles, and advocates for Diversity, Equity, Justice, and Inclusion. The role involves direct client interaction, documentation, and collaboration with other professionals to promote client quality of life. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides support to program participants, facilitating community integration and ensuring a safe, nurturing environment. Implements, follows, and documents complex Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP). Provides de‑escalation techniques during crisis situations and severe behavior meltdowns. Applies Positive Behavior Support principles to habilitative work, promoting client quality of life. Familiar with Residential Service Guidelines issued by the Developmental Disabilities Administration. Delivers instruction and support services as described in each participant's Individual Instruction and Support Plan (IISP). Ensures participants’ daily needs are met: personal hygiene, food preparation, house cleaning, shopping, health monitoring, and medication supervision. Assists participants in accessing community outings and arranges transportation if needed. Treats participants with dignity and consideration, safeguarding their rights and decision‑making ability. Provides informal counseling, problem‑solving assistance, and attends required staff meetings. Participates in the development and implementation of IISP for each client. Undergoes Nurse Assistant Registered (NAR) certification and completes the Nurse Delegation study course within specified timeframes. Monitors medication regimes, treatment compliance, and participates in ongoing program development and assessment. Coordinates support meetings and crisis plan development for clients requiring cross‑system collaboration. Ensures client stability in the community, reducing reliance on hospitals or involuntary treatment services. Maintains professional relationships with other service providers, families, and agency staff. Ensures timely completion of all documentation: medication logs, shift notes, progress notes, data sheets, incident reports, client financial records. Has a valid driver’s license and owns a vehicle willing to transport clients as needed. Completes any additional duties assigned by the Residential Management Team. Required Education and Experience Preferred bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a counseling‑related field with emphasis on families and community agencies. A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a clinician, case manager, or residential provider; ability to demonstrate clinical assessment and treatment planning skills. Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health diagnoses. Experience interacting with individuals using limited verbal or non‑verbal communication. Experience supporting individuals who exhibit behavior that may endanger themselves or others. Licensing Requirements Must pass a Washington State background check. RBT or alternative behavior‑support credential, or willingness to complete the course. Must obtain a Nurse Assistant Registered (NAR) certificate within 90 days of hire. First Aid/CPR certification within 120 days of employment. Blood Borne Pathogen training within 120 days of employment. Obtain CPI Blue Card. Ongoing Eligibility Qualifications Pass background checks upon hire and every two years thereafter. Maintain active NAR, CPR/First Aid, Nurse Delegation, and other required certifications. Complete at least 12 hours of continuing education annually.
