Position Overview Junior Specialist – Immature Gut Biology Collaborative Department of Pediatrics, University of California, Davis, School of Medicine. Salary: $55,000 (Step 1) – $58,600 (Step 2). Responsibilities Collaborate with Principal Investigator Dr. Geoanna Bautista to plan and execute research projects on neonatal gut dysfunction. Execute experimental techniques including wire myography, live calcium imaging, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and molecular assays in neonatal and adult mouse models. Maintain laboratory equipment, manage datasets, and update SOPs. Assist with grant preparation, figure creation and manuscript preparation. Present findings at departmental seminars and professional conferences. Provide mentorship to undergraduate and graduate researchers and serve on lab safety committees. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Biological Sciences, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, Neuroscience, or related field. Experience with wire myography or smooth‑muscle isometric force measurement. Proficiency in immunofluorescence staining and confocal/multiphoton microscopy. Conducted live calcium imaging with fluorescent indicators such as Fluo‑4, Fura‑2, or GCaMP. Handled live rodents, performed injections, and collected tissue. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Required at start: ability to travel regularly between UC Davis Health (Sacramento campus) and UC Davis main campus (Tupper Hall). Preferred: neonatal/fetal/perinatal rodent models; gastrointestinal physiology and mechanobiology; primary cell isolation, organoid culture; molecular biology techniques (western blot, PCR/RT‑PCR); quantitative image analysis (ImageJ/Fiji, Imaris); mechanosensitive ion‑channel experience; multicolor flow cytometry proficiency.
