CERTIFICATED SERVICE JOB SPECIFICATIONJOB CLASS:TEACHERLEVEL:IPOSITION TITLE:LANGUAGE AND SPEECH THERAPISTCLASS DEFINITION:Positions in this class are characterized by their association with direct instruction process for students with identified speech and language disabilities. Positions within this class require the ability to work with special needs children in the classroom under the general supervision of the site or service administrator. Within this class levels are differentiated by the credentials degree of skills and expertise required to perform successfully within the DEFINITION:Under general supervision to provide instruction to special needs students within credential authorized service; supervise the classroom and playground activities of special needs students; plan as necessary with other staff members for the effective delivery of instruction for special needs students; maintain records to demonstrate and evaluate special needs students educational/social/emotional progress; work with the staff members parents and other specialists necessary to develop the Individual Educational Plan of each assigned student and to do related work as OF DUTIES:Provide daily instruction to students in authorized and assigned subject areasProvide for adequate planning for students instructional programs both long and short termProvide an orderly functional and attractive learning environment for studentsImplement the I.E.P. of each studentWork cooperatively with others in the school to provide for coordinated services for studentsMaintain necessary records to evaluate student learning and periodically report that progress to the parent/student/supervisorMaintain regular contact with the parents/guardians about student progressConduct I.E.P. meetings as necessary or requiredMaintain high level of skill and expertise in the subject matters assigned to teacher and in strategies by which to teach those subjectsImplement district and school policies regarding the instruction of studentsMaintain a high level of expertise in the area of special needs of disabled studentsProvide staff development to other general and special education teachers in the area of preliminary screening of potential students for this serviceProvide assessment for students in accordance with policies and laws relating to this areaEMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:Education and Experience:Required is a B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited college or university and a teaching credential authorizing service as a language/speech therapist/specialist. Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of and the ability to apply current teaching techniques in a variety of areas strong subject matter knowledge laws and applicable sections of Federal rules and regulations State Education Code and District and school policies as well as the Boards goals and objectives. The abilities to relate in a positive manner with students to discipline students fairly and firmly to communicate in an effective manner with parents students and other professionals understand and follow both oral and written directions work within an established schedule maintain and interpret records work confidentially read interpret and follow regulations policies and procedures and work cooperatively with others in the school and district and other Requirements:Valid child/adult CPR certificatePHYSICAL ABILITIES:Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents and the display screen of various office equipment and machinesAbility to conduct verbal conversation in English Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels)Able to sit stand stoop kneel bend walkAble to stand on hard flooring for sustained periods of timeAble to walk on hard flooring for sustained periods of timeAble to climb slopes stairs and laddersAble to push and/or pull a variety of tools and equipmentAble to lift up to 30 pound frequently and 75 pounds occasionallyAble to push and pull objects weighing up to 200 poundsAble to sustain strenuous manual labor for the employees normal work dayAble to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotationAble to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder abduction and adductionAble to exhibit full range of motion for back flexionAble to exhibit full range of motion for elbow flexion and extensionAble to exhibit full range of motion for hip flexion and extensionAble to exhibit full range of motion for knee flexionAble to exhibit manual dexterity needed to operate a computer and other classroom and office equipmentAble to work with cleaning solutions disinfectant and sanitizers without allergic reactionSALARY SCHEDULE:Certificated Annual/MonthlyEVALUATED BY:Site or Service AdministratorEVALUATION REVIEWED BY:Superintendent or designee

Salary is based on regular placement on the Speech and Language Pathologist salary schedule depending on credential total number of college units earned after the granting of the BA Degree and total number of years. Westside accepts up to 10 years of previous teaching experience. Salary begins at $66119 for Speech and Language Pathologists without a preliminary or clear credential. For Speech and Language Pathologists with a preliminary or clear credential the range is $115385-$127324.
