Assistant Project Manager

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) plays a critical support role across preconstruction, buyout, and project execution. Working directly with Project Managers and field leadership, the APM helps drive coordination, maintain project controls, and ensure projects stay aligned with schedule, budget, and scope. In our lean, entrepreneurial environment, this role offers significant exposure across all phases of construction and a clear path to Project Manager. Key Responsibilities Project Management and Execution Support Project Managers in executing all phases of construction projects, from contract execution through punch list and closeout. Assist in maintaining project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes and project logs. Support overall project controls, including tracking of schedule, cost, submittals, RFIs and procurement to ensure alignment across all phases of the project. Develop a working understanding of contract documents, drawings and project specifications. Manage and track the submittal process from initial preparation through approval, ensuring alignment with project schedule, procurement requirements and material delivery timelines. Draft, track and proactively follow through on RFIs to support timely resolution of design and field coordination issues. Support the project team in delivering projects safely, on time, on budget and to a high standard of quality and operational excellence. Assist in project closeout activities, including collection of warranties, O&M manuals, as-built documentation and coordination of subcontractor closeout requirements. Field Management Support field operations in coordination with the Superintendent, including site logistics, trade coordination and progress tracking. Assist with coordination of site logistics, deliveries and trade activities in partnership with the Superintendent. Conduct periodic job walks and support daily field activities. Assist in tracking project budgets, cost projections and financial reporting. Assist in preparation of pay applications for the Owner alongside Project Accounting. Assist in preparing and managing change orders, including distributing scope changes to subcontractors, collecting pricing and supporting internal review and execution. Identify scope gaps and work not covered within subcontractor agreements and coordinate resolution with the Project Manager. Scheduling & Subcontractor Coordination Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules and look-ahead planning. Lead and/or support weekly subcontractor meetings and maintain 3-week look-aheads in partnership with project Superintendent. Ensure subcontractors are clear on scope, sequencing and deliverables. Preconstruction & Buyout Actively support buyout and subcontractor procurement, including bid leveling, scope review and subcontract drafting. Support the transition from buyout to execution by ensuring procurement tracking, submittal logs and trade onboarding are aligned. Participate in constructability reviews and help drive scope clarity across trades. Assist with procurement and onboarding of subcontractors and vendors. Client & Team Communication Support communication with clients and design teams, including meeting coordination, documentation and follow-ups. Communicate clearly, frequently and proactively with all stakeholders. Attend and support weekly OAC meetings with opportunities to lead as experience develops. Represent the company professionally in all external interactions. Qualifications Minimum 2 years of commercial construction or related experience. Demonstrated ability to support project execution in a team environment. Strong organizational and follow-through skills with attention to detail. Experience with field supervision and subcontractor coordination. Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, sequencing and safety. Proficient in Microsoft Office, project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Procore) and document control. OSHA 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 90 days). Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field. Ideal Candidate Attributes Entrepreneurial mindset—takes ownership and initiative.
