About the Position

Job Title: Occupational Therapist Profession: Therapy Specialty: Occupational Therapy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum of 1 year preferred License: Current state licensure required Certifications: BLS certification required Must-Have: Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills Description: Assesses and treats the impact of illness, injury, developmental or psychological impairments on patient performance in Activities of Daily Living. These may include range of motion, grooming and hygiene, eating, dressing, toileting, driving, cooking, or working. Responsible for assisting the patient in regaining, developing, and learning skills to achieve optimal independence, reduce joint strain, prevent further joint damage, and conserve energy. Develops, implements, and monitors the plan of care for the person served. Performs and directs administration of all occupational therapy modalities and collaborates throughout the process with the patient, their family, and the interdisciplinary team. Verifies physician orders prior to evaluation. Evaluates each patient before administering treatments, incorporating psychological and physical issues. Evaluations must include thorough reading of the patient's chart and history, and may include objective measurements relative to the patient’s diagnosis and condition. Completes the evaluation and establishes goals and a plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family, and other healthcare workers as appropriate. Administers and directs all occupational therapy treatments and modalities to assist the patient in reaching their maximum rehabilitation potential through the use of activities of daily living, splinting, range of motion, endurance building, strengthening exercises, cognitive retraining, coordination, and dexterity training. Has knowledge of indications and contraindications. Calls the physician if treatment ordered is not indicated. Acquires appropriate equipment, checks equipment being used for safety, and communicates evaluation, treatment procedures, and the use of specific equipment to the patient and family. Applies or supervises appropriate treatments or modalities such as therapeutic exercises, hot moist packs, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, paraffin, soft tissue mobilization, balance training, and functional mobility training. Checks frequently with the patient for tolerance of modalities given. Maintains contact with the referring physician regarding patient progress. Observes treatment effects and recommends changes to the physician if indicated.
