Inventory Specialist

The Inventory Specialist assists with a wide range of inventory and materials management activities, including verifying and counting incoming items, processing transactions in the material inventory system, issuing materials for manufacturing and engineering projects, preparing kits, inspecting returned materials, and organizing and maintaining inventory storage areas. This role requires strong attention to detail, solid analytical skills, and proficiency with computer programs such as Deltek Costpoint, Excel, and other corporate ERP and office applications.

Responsibilities:

• Count and verify incoming receipt items against purchase orders and accurately process receipts in the material inventory system.
• Issue material from stock for manufacturing orders and engineering projects in a timely and accurate manner.
• Prepare and kit materials for the production floor and engineering projects, ensuring all required components are available and correctly labeled.
• Process inbound and outbound field service materials for service repairs, maintaining accurate records of all movements.
• Receive returned material stock items from contract manufacturers, inspect items, and determine their suitability for restocking.
• Organize and maintain inventory areas to support efficient material storage and handling, including maintaining a clear labeling system on each stock item.
• Manually stock inventory shelving with received or returned materials, ensuring items are stored in the correct locations.
• Use Deltek Costpoint and other ERP tools to properly account for material issues, returns, receipts of new materials, and associated back orders.
• Resolve inventory-related transaction errors by investigating discrepancies and correcting records in the system.
• Perform daily cycle counts and complete cycle count reconciliations to ensure inventory accuracy.
• Assist with item master updates, including lead times and other item attributes, to keep system data current and reliable.
• Support shipping and receiving activities, including handling materials that need to be shipped or received and processing related documentation.
• Utilize scanners and data entry tools to record inventory movements and maintain accurate electronic records.

Essential Skills:

• Experience processing transactions in corporate ERP systems, such as Deltek Costpoint or similar platforms.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel and Word, for data entry, reporting, and analysis.
• Strong attention to detail to accurately verify counts, reconcile discrepancies, and maintain precise inventory records.
• Analytical skills to investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and prioritize inventory-related tasks.
• Hands-on experience with electronic components, including kitting and handling materials used in electronics manufacturing or repair.
• Experience in shipping and receiving operations, including handling receipts and outbound shipments.
• Experience in warehouse, material handling, or distribution environments.
• Ability to perform cycle counts and cycle count reconciliations to maintain accurate inventory levels.
• Competence in data entry with a focus on accuracy and consistency.
• Ability to use scanners and related warehouse technology for tracking and recording inventory movements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience working with inventory in an electronics-focused environment.
• Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems for inventory and materials management.
• Comfort working in a lab-like, clean environment with organized shelving and inventory storage.
• General knowledge of inventory control best practices and warehouse organization.
• Ability to collaborate with a small logistics and inventory team and support multiple aspects of the materials management process.

Work Environment:

The work takes place in a clean environment with a somewhat lab-like setting, complemented by a warehouse area with organized shelving that holds items to be shipped or received. The role follows an 8-hour shift scheduled between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with team coverage needed until 6:00 p.m. to receive the last FedEx packages, so flexibility to work later within that window is important. A 30-minute lunch break is provided, and some overtime is available based on workload and operational needs. You will work with ERP systems such as Deltek Costpoint and possibly SAP, along with scanners, computers, and standard office and warehouse equipment in a structured, orderly setting focused on accurate material handling and inventory control.

This is a Contract position based out of GERMANTOWN, MD.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
