Base pay range $23.00/hr - $28.00/hr Responsibilities Documentation Preparation and Submission – Prepare and submit necessary documents for the import of goods. Regulatory Compliance – Ensure compliance with all relevant customs regulations, laws and trade agreements. This includes understanding tariff classification, valuation and rules of origin. Tariff and Duty Calculation – Determine correct classifications and calculate duties, taxes and other fees associated with the importation of goods. Liaison with Customs Authorities – Act as a liaison between the importer and customs authorities to address any issues that arise during the clearing process. Clearance Process Management – Manage the customs clearance process to ensure timely and efficient movement of goods. Record Keeping – Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all transactions and communication in accordance with MEC policies. Problem Resolution – Address and resolve any issues that may arise during the customs clearance process, including dealing with customs holds and inspections. Updating Knowledge – Stay updated with changes in customs regulations, trade policies, and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance and efficiency. Coordination with other parties – Coordinate with various parties involved in the supply chain including shippers, importers and freight forwarders. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or related field or combination equivalent work experience. Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in customs brokerage. Strong business acumen with a keen aptitude to quickly assimilate new information. Excellent organization, analytical, written, and oral communications skills. Must be detailed-oriented. Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, while exercising sound judgement. Ability to think creatively and strategically to solve complex problems. Candidates must be self-motivated, customer service oriented, and eager to ensure the success of the team. Ability to function independently, with minimal supervision, and thrive within a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment. Excellent computer knowledge, advanced Microsoft Office proficiency.
