Warehouse Manager / Operator

The Warehouse Manager/Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the warehouse, overseeing the receiving, storage, handling, and shipping of millwork, windows, doors, and related building products. This role ensures product is accurately received and inventoried, safely stored to prevent damage to high-value and fragile materials, and staged and delivered on schedule to job sites, dealers, and contractors. The position combines hands-on warehouse operator duties with supervisory and inventory-management responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

– Plan and direct daily warehouse activities, including receiving, put-away, order pulling, staging, and loading of millwork, windows, doors, and hardware.

– Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, quality, and damage; document and report discrepancies or freight claims to vendors and management.

– Maintain accurate perpetual inventory through cycle counts, system transactions, and physical audits; investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.

– Ensure proper handling and storage of glass, prefinished millwork, and doors to prevent scratching, warping, or breakage, using correct racking, crating, and blocking methods.

– Schedule and coordinate outbound deliveries, will-call pickups, and job-site drop-offs with drivers, dispatch, and customers.

– Supervise, train, and schedule warehouse staff and forklift/equipment operators; assign daily tasks and monitor productivity.

– Operate and/or oversee safe use of forklifts, order pickers, and other material-handling equipment.

– Enforce safety policies and OSHA compliance; conduct safety meetings and maintain a clean, organized facility.

– Maintain warehouse layout for efficient slotting of SKUs, seasonal stock, and special-order items.

– Coordinate with purchasing, sales, and customer service on order status, backorders, and special/custom orders.

– Maintain equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, racking) and schedule preventive maintenance and repairs.

– Uphold company policies on loss prevention, damage claims, and returns processing.

QUALIFICATIONS

– High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or relevant certification a plus.

– 3+ years of warehouse experience, preferably in millwork, windows, doors, lumber, or building materials distribution.

– 1+ years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.

– Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.

– Working knowledge of inventory/ERP or warehouse management systems (e.g., Epicor, NetSuite, or similar).

– Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for order accuracy and product care.

– Ability to read pick tickets, purchase orders, and product specifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

– Ability to lift up to 75 lbs regularly and up to 150+ lbs with team lift or equipment assistance.

– Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods in a warehouse environment.

– Comfortable working in variable temperatures, including non-climate-controlled warehouse space.

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time, typically Monday–Friday with occasional Saturday or overtime hours based on seasonal demand and delivery schedules.
