MOBILE EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN (INTERMEDIATE) (50080422) Sub-Division: MCPHD FLS Status: [[JOB_REQUISITION_CUSTOM27]] Analytical/Assessment Skills Communication Skills Policy Development/Program Planning Skills Management Job Role Summary The Mobile Equipment Repairer performs essential maintenance and repair tasks for motor vehicles, tractors, trailers, generators, and small engines. This role involves conducting routine service duties, inspecting vehicle conditions for safety, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Technician will also stay updated on technology and attend training as necessary to maintain skills. Perform other duties as assigned to support other technicians. Day in Life: In this role, your day will be a blend of shop and fieldwork. You will conduct routine maintenance and repairs on various vehicles and equipment, including motor vehicles, tractors, and small engines. Much of your time will be spent in the shop, where you'll use diagnostic tools to identify issues, perform repairs, and ensure that all equipment is safe and operational. Occasionally, you will be called to perform mobile repairs in the field, addressing mechanical issues directly on-site to minimize downtime. Throughout the day, you will also collaborate with other technicians, maintain a clean workspace, and engage in ongoing training to develop your skills and stay current with industry practices. Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance (91%) Perform basic maintenance and intermediate repair of all corporate vehicles and support equipment safely and on time. Assist other technicians with maintenance tasks as needed. Refuel vehicles and operate the corporate refueling station efficiently. Retrieved and delivered various materials, supplies, and automotive components as directed. Conduct vehicle inspections to evaluate roadworthiness and address defects in compliance with Department of Transportation standards. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues to ensure timely repairs and minimize downtime. Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on vehicles and equipment. Coordinate with vendors for parts and supplies and ensure inventory is maintained. Stay current with technology and practices relevant to vehicle maintenance and repair. (Core Competency) Attend training sessions to ensure skill levels meet job requirements. Associated Job Duties Participate in public health emergency preparedness exercises and responses as directed. Participate in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling at least eight (8) hours annually. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Assist with additional tasks as needed by the team. Perform related duties as assigned. Maintain timely and accurate information in the vehicle data file Participate in safety training and adhere to all safety protocols in shop and field environments. Qualifications 5-7 years of professional experience in automotive or diesel repair, or equivalent. Demonstrated ability to handle standard maintenance tasks with limited supervision. Diverse Equipment Exposure Experience servicing light-duty trucks, passenger vehicles, or small engine equipment. Some experience with diagnostic software or basic vehicle control modules a plus. Proven track record of working effectively in a shop environment. Willingness to assist and learn from senior mechanics while guiding entry-level technicians. Licenses/Certifications Required Must obtain and maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License. Must obtain Class “A” commercial driver’s license within 90 days of employment. Certified in air conditioning, tires, brakes, and boom truck safety. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Intermediate Mechanical Systems Familiarity with gasoline and diesel engines, including basic fuel, cooling, and exhaust systems. Competence in performing brake repairs, suspension work, and minor transmission service. Electrical & Diagnostic Skills Ability to use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot starters, alternators, and basic wiring issues. Understanding of how to interpret simple electrical diagrams and follow testing procedures. Preventative Maintenance & Repair Confident performing regular services (oil changes, fluid checks, belt replacements, tire rotations) and minor repairs with limited oversight. Basic familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Tools & Equipment Proficient in the use of common hand tools, power tools, lifts, hoists, and alignment machines. Some welding exposure or light fabrication skills are beneficial. Safety & Compliance Solid grasp of workplace safety requirements (OSHA, DOT, and EPA). Demonstrated adherence to safe work practices and a proactive approach to hazard identification. Capable of accurately documenting services performed and updating maintenance records. Effective communication with team members, including parts staff and supervisors. Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of heavy physical effort, typically involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. These tasks may include the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). Tasks involve long periods of standing and working with arms above shoulder level. Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, to perceive and discriminate depths, and to see small details accurately. Some tasks require hearing high and low frequency sounds at various volumes, distinguishing between sounds, and determining locations from which sounds emanate. Some tasks require the ability to carefully feel differences in surface roughness. Tasks are regularly performed indoors/ outdoors with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, strong odors, smoke, fumes, pollen, machinery, temperature and noise extremes, and toxic/poisonous agents.
