• Unit Name: PCU
• Number of Beds: 630 has 34 beds; 633 has 25 beds
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 to 1:5 on days, 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• Unit Staffing: 3 technicians when unit 630 is full, 2 technicians when unit 633 is full

• High flow O2
• Vapotherm
• Alaris pumps
• Cardiac drips
• Heparin drips
• Insulin drips
• Peritoneal dialysis

Documentation System

Scheduling Requirements

• Every other weekend requirement for contract
• Three 12-hour shifts a week

Floating Policy

May be required to float between PCU units or to medical-surgical floors.

Patient Experience Requirements

• Hourly rounding on days
• Every 2-hour rounding on nights
• AIDET methodology for communication
• Maintain communication boards on the 7th floor; Unit 633 has TV communication boards

Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS

Desired Skill Set

• Critical thinking skills
• EKG rhythm interpretation
• Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips
• Preferred experience with peritoneal dialysis and peripheral IV skills
• Advanced skills: ACLS
• Experience with bipaps, high flow O2, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
• Experience caring for stroke patients and post-cardiac catheterization
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tube management

Procedures Performed on Unit

• Peritoneal dialysis
• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Chest tube insertions
• Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
• Central line dressing changes
• Troubleshooting of wound vacs

Dress Code

Required uniform: Black scrubs
