Business Associate A – Admitting and Throughput Location: Mount Sinai Hospital – Part‑time, 30 hrs/week, 4 days/week, variable shift. Must be able to work day, night, and weekend shifts. Responsibilities Pre‑admit patients to the Medical Center, including taking reservations, obtaining demographic, insurance and other pertinent data, discussing state mandatory regulations, and explaining what is to be expected upon admission. Admit patients, verifying demographic and insurance information, signing forms, collecting deposits and obtaining authorizations as necessary. Act as liaison to insurance companies and the Medicaid Eligibility Office; screen requests for medical necessity, obtain prior authorizations, pre‑certify admissions, and assist in document collection. Maintain census and charge data, update systems, and compile information for charge capture. Schedule appropriate tests, medical procedures, and follow‑up appointments. Assist in chart completion by maintaining and discharging charts in proper order, compiling deficiency data, and working with physicians to complete charts. Greet visitors, answer telephones promptly and courteously, and accompany visitors to appropriate areas as necessary. Assist patients with guest services such as television and telephone service, securing valuables, and providing information and referrals as appropriate. Receive and maintain business office inventory for the care center. Answer call system and refer to appropriate staff. Perform other duties as assigned, including reporting and following up on lost/found patient property, reviewing death certificates for completion and accuracy, and generating reports. Qualifications High school diploma or GED; associate degree preferred. At least 1 year of related work experience. Proven data entry and computer skills required. Experience with medical databases (e.g., Cerner, IDX, Eagle). Clerical skills (answering phones, relaying messages, reception, correspondence, etc.). Proven customer service experience in a healthcare environment. Previous experience with insurance pre‑certifications and patient discharge. Collective Bargaining Unit
