Job Description This recruitment will be used to fill three part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Graduate Tour Ambassador positions for the Welcome Center at Oregon State University (OSU). Oregon State University Graduate Tour Ambassadors represent OSU through prospective graduate student recruitment events within the Office of Admissions. Graduate Tour Ambassadors conduct prospective graduate student visit program components including campus tours, virtual campus tours, and other graduate recruitment activities. Graduate student employees can expect to work no more than 5-10 hours a week, which is flexible with and supports their academic priorities. All graduate visit programs are conducted in-person and virtually. There may be opportunities for Graduate Tour Ambassadors to participate in off-campus recruitment events, as interested. Successful candidates enjoy working with people, have a wide range of life experiences and an eagerness to promote Oregon State University to prospective graduate students. Position Duties Assist in the creation and upkeep of a prospective graduate-specific campus tour route and content, utilizing existing undergraduate tour plans and adapting them for a graduate student audience Welcome prospective graduate students into the Welcome Center, getting students checked in and oriented for their campus visit Conduct guided campus tours (both virtual and on‑campus) with prospective graduate students and their guests Engage with visiting prospective graduate students to answer questions about graduate student life at Oregon State and other graduate‑specific information Have opportunities to work with campus‑wide marketing efforts to promote OSU Transferable Skill Development OSU is committed to ensuring students are prepared for success after graduation through intentional skill development as student employees. In this position, students learn and build vital career‑readiness skills in the primary areas below: Communication, Critical Thinking, Leadership, Professionalism Required Qualifications Previous customer service experience Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to effectively and positively represent Oregon State University Demonstrated knowledge of the OSU graduate admissions process, graduate student resources and the graduate student experience This position is designated as a critical or security‑sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576‑055‑0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self‑report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years. Preferred Qualifications Experience providing university campus visits/tours is strongly preferred Knowledge and familiarity with Oregon State University campus and student resources is strongly preferred Bilingual or multilingual Working Conditions / Schedule The Welcome Center will soon be offering prospective graduate student campus tours for the first time ever. We currently only offer prospective undergraduate tours led by current undergraduate students, so we need to hire graduate students who can serve as a peer leader for those prospective graduate tours. Work is campus based, Monday through Friday. Working hours are generally between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend commitments may be requested, based on staff availability. Graduate tour ambassadors are scheduled for approximately 5 hours per week at most, and workload will vary depending on the volume of graduate visits. Graduate campus tours will initially be offered once weekly, and frequency may increase if visitor volume grows. Campus tours leave from the Welcome Center and are outdoors for the majority of the tour time. Employees must be able to walk or travel up to 3 miles during a campus tour. Virtual tours are offered monthly, and access to a computer with Zoom and reliable internet is necessary to provide those tours.
