KRUA 88.1 FM, the student radio station at the University of Alaska Anchorage, is currently recruiting for the Program Director position. This student staff position is 20 hours/week during the academic year (with flexible hours in the summer) and starts at $15.88/hour.
The KRUA Program Director, will be working within the student media organization KRUA 88.1 FM. This position will be directing programs within KRUA 88.1 FM and must take initiative to ensure the programs are enhancing the UAA student experience by providing campus event coverage, music, news, sports, public affairs and broadcast experience. KRUA employs students, trains over 40 volunteers each year, and partners with the Department of Journalism & Communication to provide training and experiential learning opportunities. This position collaborates closely with the student-run newspaper, The Northern Light, to ensure all student media complements and supports the student experience.
To thrive in this role, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, an ability to meet deadlines, collaborate with staff, and work effectively with the public. The role requires a willingness to learn and teach, train staff and volunteers, and develop engaging team building activities. Knowledge of FCC regulations, media ethics, First Amendment rights, and the Freedom of Information Act is important, along with the ability to use social media to promote music and station programming. Familiarity with radio operations, audio production, Microsoft and Google applications, and software such as Adobe Audition, Audacity, NexGen, or Selector is preferred.

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must: a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee. d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer. e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

This is a Student Assistant 2 position that will work 20 hours/week with the hourly rate of $15.88/hr.
