Position SummaryThe Road Maintenance Worker II performs skilled and manual labor. The Road Maintenance Worker II works on a crew engaged in the maintenance and repair of county roads, bridges, right of way, street signs and other assigned structures; and operates a wide variety of light and heavy construction equipment such as dump trucks, water trucks, pickup trucks, mowers, backhoes, bulldozers, chippers excavators, boom axes, rollers, and graders.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of light and heavy equipment and its operation.Skilled in the operation and control of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and/or rapid adjustments.Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work.Ability to exert physical effort to meet the demands of the task.Ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture and visual cues or signals.Ability to communicate orally.Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, noise extremes, machinery vibrations, or traffic hazards.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDSix (6) months of experience operating light and heavy equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s). Employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment drug testing, physical fitness testing and criminal background check.I understand that final confirmation of any job offer will be contingent upon my undergoing a pre-employment drug screening, and failure to submit to such screening, the falsification of a screen, or a positive finding on a test will remove me from consideration for employment for one year. I also understand this position requires an ability to meet physical demands that serve as the essential functions of the job. I understand that I may be required to demonstrate that I can perform the essential functions of the job.I also understand a criminal history check will be conducted. Although a disqualification is possible, in accordance with federal and state laws, a previous conviction does not automatically disqualify me from consideration for employment.
