Precision Manual Lathe & Boring Mill Machinist

Location: Moody, AL (On-site)

Schedule: 2nd Shift, Monday–Thursday, 8:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Compensation: $32–$35/hour base + $3.00/hour 2nd-shift differential. $3,500 Retention bonus, $1,000 bonus, and relocation assistance available.

A Night on Our Team

As the shop winds up for the evening, you take ownership of a large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump overhaul. You set up massive components and bring big iron to life — vertical and horizontal lathes — to return pumps and compressors to exacting standards. Reading blueprints and dialing in precision measuring tools, you work methodically to hold fine tolerances down to 0.0005" when required. You select cutting tools for a range of alloys, balance speeds and feeds for the right finish, and document each step with care.

Forklift and overhead crane work are second nature as you lift and rig heavy, uniquely shaped parts. Between passes, you support disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly. When production needs shift, you pitch in across the floor — from fabrication and assembly to rotor balancing — and you don’t mind a bit of overtime during the week (and an occasional weekend) to get critical equipment back in service. Throughout it all, you follow our EH&S and QMS processes to the letter.

What You Bring

• 3+ years as a machine operator/machinist with proven setup know-how and confident use of machine controls.
• 2+ years reading and interpreting blueprints/drawings.
• 1+ year running King‑style boring mills and/or vertical turning lathes (VTLs) .
• Hands-on proficiency with depth, bore, and height gauges; feeler gauges; micrometers; calipers; deburring tools; die grinders; drill presses; and overhead lifting devices.
• Comfort maintaining tight tolerances and surface finishes; strong judgement in cutting tool selection, speeds, and feeds.

Core Strengths

• Skilled at prioritizing multiple jobs and hitting deadlines.
• Fluent switching between metric and US units.
• Structured problem solving (e.g., 5 Whys) when variables stack up.
• Clear communicator in one‑on‑one and small‑group settings with supervisors, peers, and customers.

Preferred

• HS Diploma or GED; additional technical education or certifications are a plus.
• Manual machining experience on VTLs, boring mills, and horizontal lathes (Cincinnati, King, or similar).
• Demonstrated ability to set up and operate manual work centers, perform tool changes, and make in‑process offset adjustments.

Work Setting

• Role is 100% onsite at our Moody, AL facility.
