Billing Clerk

A healthcare organization is seeking billing support as it transitions previously outsourced billing functions back in-house. The contractor will assist with updating files, processing claims, managing patient accounts, and supporting billing operations throughout the year-end transition.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contact patients and their representatives regarding account balances, billing questions, and payment matters.
• Communicate with insurance carriers, businesses, and physician offices to resolve billing-related issues.
• Post payments received from patients and insurance providers.
• Submit patient claims to insurance carriers and monitor claim status.
• Process appeals for denied claims and charges.
• Assist with collections and follow up on outstanding balances.
• Investigate claim rejections, billing discrepancies, and payment issues.
• Process refunds and handle returned or dishonored payments.
• Prepare reports, respond to inquiries, maintain organized files, and perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Medical billing and coding certification or a related degree preferred.
• Approximately two years of healthcare billing experience preferred.
• Medical billing experience is ideal; candidates with transferable experience in general billing, insurance, collections, or front desk and reception roles will also be considered.
• Strong communication and customer service skills, including the ability to navigate sensitive financial conversations professionally.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to learn new systems and procedures while maintaining accuracy.
• Willingness to work onsite initially, with potential flexibility as the assignment progresses.
