Special Education Resource Teacher
We are seeking an energetic and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our team! You will be leading a class of students through the school year, assessing their current academic level and designing instruction to meet students' collective and individual needs.
You are passionate about learning and helping students reach their potential. With strong creative and problem-solving skills, you love connecting with individual students and creating an engaging classroom environment.
A Special Education Resource Teacher in Michigan provides individualized support to students with disabilities, ensuring they receive the necessary accommodations and interventions to succeed in a general education setting. Their role includes direct instruction, collaboration with general education teachers, and compliance with special education laws.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and Michigan Department of Education regulations.
- Provide small-group or one-on-one instruction to students with disabilities, adapting lessons to meet individual needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented effectively.
- Use data-driven instruction to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Assist with behavior management strategies and implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) when needed.
- Maintain accurate records, including IEP documentation, progress reports, and assessment data.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and IEP goals.
- Attend IEP meetings, professional development sessions, and staff meetings as required.
- Stay current with Michigan special education policies and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field. Michigan Teaching Certification with a Special Education endorsement (e.g., LD, EI, ASD, CI, or other relevant categories).
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction, assistive technology, and inclusion strategies.
- Knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and other intervention frameworks.
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Experience working with students with diverse needs preferred.
