Ophthalmology Section Chief - Alexandria VA Health Care Network

This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional healthcare that improves their health and well-being. *Ophthalmology Section Chief Key Responsibilities:* * Typical shift M-F, 7:30am-4:00pm OR 8:00am-4:30pm * Travel: up to 25% to Community Based Outpatient Clinics * Provides comprehensive ophthalmologic evaluation/consultations, both IP/OP, diagnosis and treatment for patients, surgical procedures, postoperative care, and follow-up management across all appropriate subspecialties of ophthalmology * Collaborates with other specialties to provide integrated patient management. * Participates in call coverage, surgical rotations, and urgent ophthalmologic evaluations * Oversees daily operations of the ophthalmology clinic, including scheduling, patient * flow, and coordination of services * Develops strategic plans for program growth, resource allocation, and improved access to ophthalmology services * Additional duties as required * May qualify for the Education Debt Reduction Program (up to $200K over a 5-year period) *What We Offer:* * Competitive Salary: $359,000 - $385,000 * Generous Paid Time Off: 50-55 days per year, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays. * Retirement Benefits: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and a federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by VA. * Comprehensive Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care, with many programs carrying into retirement. * Flexibility: No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting. * Professional Development: Up to 5 days' paid leave and reimbursement of $1,000 per year. * Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided *Preferred Experience:* * Board Certified in Ophthalmology. * 5 years' experience; Veterans experience preferred * Must be a U.S. Citizen.
