Senior Electrical Engineer

ABOUT THE JOB

As the Sr. Electrical Engineer, you will specify, design, develop and install devices used to collect data on solid rocket motor burn performance. Additionally, you will design custom electronic solutions—PCBs, firmware, and FPGA code—for manufacturing and testing solid rocket motors, including safety‑critical designs. The role also requires configuring data collection systems and developing software applications for data collection. You may oversee technicians during instrumentation installation and rocket motor testing/development.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Analyze current equipment; identify areas of inefficiency and needs for improvement; design and develop instrumentation to meet those needs. Collaborate with other engineers to develop accurate, efficient equipment and instrumentation in accordance with safety and usability standards and client expectations. Design and test prototypes of equipment. Design and execute PCBA and electrical system components with hands‑on testing and rework as necessary. Create basic schematics and simulated models to test designs; modify designs to meet specifications and budget requirements. Oversee the implementation of new measuring devices and control systems, ensuring devices are correctly installed and properly tested. Act as project engineer for design, prototype fabrication, and manufacturing development. Develop cable drawings to interface to various low‑voltage interfaces. Draft and present formal technical documents, reports, and testing results to manager for approval. Provide training related to devices to employees and/or customers. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of 5 years’ experience with the design, development, and installation of sensors employed to collect data on system performance. NI LabVIEW or NI DAQmx experience, or familiarity with other COTS data acquisition systems. Thorough understanding of signal conditioning for data acquisition, i.e. analog circuit design. Intimate knowledge of the analog‑to‑digital conversion process, i.e. digital circuit design. Understanding of computer‑controlled data acquisition and ability to develop computer applications for data collection. Ability to select the correct sensors and design their placement to acquire the needed solid rocket motor performance metrics. Thorough understanding of applied math and physics. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and computer‑aided design software. Ability to write and understand Python. Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree in engineering. Experience with circuit simulation tools (SPICE). Experience using EDA tools such as Altium or OrCAD. Familiarity with real‑time computer architectures and their OSes. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance. Salary Range

$113,000–$149,000 USD
