Agency: Department of Public Safety, NC Position Title: Juvenile Detention Center Supervisor (S) Position Number: 65032155 | Grade: NC10 Overview The Department of Public Safety seeks a Juvenile Detention Center Supervisor to provide direct supervision of staff and juveniles for pre‑ and post‑adjudicated cases and status offenders bound to Superior Court. The role requires 3rd shift work, including nights, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis, and a valid driver’s license upon hire. Responsibilities Supervise direct care staff responsible for the safety and security of delinquents, status offenders and juveniles. Assist in hiring, training, orientation, and assignment of work to staff. Manage performance and ensure staff meet certification and policy requirements. Maintain close physical contact with juveniles and make decisions impacting the safety of juveniles, staff and property. Work 3rd shift; required days include nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience working with juvenile/family clients, including one year in a secure or residential treatment facility; OR Associate degree from an accredited institution and four years of experience working with juvenile/family clients, including one year in a secure or residential treatment facility; OR Equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver’s license upon hire. Certification Requirements Must obtain or possess required documentation for Juvenile Justice Officer certification, including a diploma. Pass a criminal background check. Pass a drug screening test. Pass a psychological test. Pass a sexual risk screening test. Complete a physical exam including vision and hearing assessment. Be a U.S. citizen, at least 20 years of age, and hold a valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of institutional programming techniques for delinquent juveniles. Knowledge of treatment and rehabilitative modalities. Experience working with juveniles. Experience establishing rapport with treatment professionals. Schedule and Pay Full‑time (40 hours per week). Pay range: $43,267 – $75,718, based on qualifications and experience.
