Senior Mechanical Engineer - SOLIDWORKS - Automation

Role summary / purpose

We are seeking a talented, self-motivated Senior level Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of custom automated machinery projects for a diverse range of manufacturing industries. A viable candidate will have the ability to manage the mechanical engineering responsibilities and deliverables of a project from the conceptual phase through final design, build, debug and commissioning at client facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop deeper knowledge and skills in the various areas of complex machine design
• Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and methods to perform necessary functions in the pursuit of on-time and on-budget engineering deliverables
• Work collaboratively with peers and other departmental co-workers to advance the objectives of a project's contractual requirements
• Participate in the engineering review process of team member's technical output
• Influence team members in the development of design maturation
• Possess good oral and written communication skills in order to represent the organization in a professional manner
• Be client facing in the presentation of design development throughout the engineering phase of a project
• Work with minimal supervision and exercise sound independent judgment in decision making
• Seek to challenge the status quo with ideas and initiatives that promote efficiency, safety, and overall workflow improvements

Requirements - education & experience

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline, or an associate's degree (2-year) with experience from accredited program (ABET/EAC)
• 5+ years' work experience as a Mechanical Engineer
• Proficient in the application of standard and advanced engineering principles, practices, and procedures
• Has sufficient knowledge to supervise others
• Breadth and depth of experience with enterprise engineering problems
• Rely on extensive experience and judgment to accomplish tasks
• Able to quickly recognize and fix common engineering problems based on experience, including review and critique of others' work
• Viewed as a technical specialist in the department
• May serve as a mentor/coach for developing engineers

Required skills

• Experienced with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, AutoCAD)
• Work with minimal supervision on complex design tasks
• Interface effectively with customers and project teams

Nice-to-have / preferred skills

• FE Exam or EIT certification
• Current or prior experience in the automation industry
• Travel capability up to 5% including overnight and international

Employment details - type, location, hours

• Position type: Contract with option to convert
• Location: South Carolina (100% onsite, multiple locations)
• Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, average 8-9 hour days
• Start date: As soon as possible
