Job Description
This role offers a structured Electrical Assembly Apprentice Training Academy that prepares you to assemble, wire, and test industrial control panels and switchgear systems. You will learn to read and interpret point-to-point wiring schematics and diagrams for 480V, 120V, and 24V systems, and gain hands-on experience with crimping, pulling, terminating, and installing UL panels and sub-assemblies. After successfully completing the training, you will join a dedicated cell unit on 2nd shift, performing detailed electrical assembly and real-time testing in a clean, temperature-controlled production environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with mechanical and electrical builds of customer products while progressing through the training academy.
- Assemble, wire, and test industrial control panels and switchgear systems, with an emphasis on 3-phase power distribution.
- Pull, route, crimp, install, and terminate wiring using point-to-point wiring schematics and diagrams.
- Perform real-time point-to-point testing to verify accurate wiring, proper terminations, and integrity of wires and housings.
- Use tools such as multimeters, wire strippers, crimpers, torque wrenches, and other hand and power tools to complete assembly and testing tasks.
- Perform part replacement on tools and equipment as needed and in accordance with maintenance schedules.
- Resolve routine questions and problems independently, escalating more complex issues to higher-level team members or supervisors.
- Work under close supervision during training, with frequent monitoring and feedback on output and quality.
- Maintain accurate documentation and update panel layouts and related records as needed.
- Follow established manufacturing protocols and lean production principles to support efficient, high-quality output.
- Follow detailed written and verbal instructions, including visual aids, diagrams, blueprints, and electrical schematics.
- Keep the assigned work area clean, organized, and compliant with 5S standards throughout the shift.
- Comply with all procedures within the company’s security policy and operational guidelines.
- Coordinate with teammates to organize and complete tasks that require multiple team members within small work groups or cell teams.
- Communicate with inventory personnel regarding spare parts usage, inventory levels, and storage locations to support timely order fulfillment.
- Participate fully in classroom and hands-on training sessions, including safety training, wiring standards, labeling, testing protocols, and panel layout practices.
- Apply training to hands-on tasks such as adding ferrules, crimping, terminating, landing wiring, and aligning wiring in panels for effective tracing.
- Adhere to all training academy expectations and conduct standards while in the classroom and production environments.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support production goals and team objectives.
Essential Skills
- Basic electrical wiring or assembly experience preferred, with a strong interest in developing skills in industrial electrical assembly.
- Demonstrated initiative and motivation to learn a trade through an in-depth training academy.
- Ability to learn to read and interpret electrical point-to-point schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, graphs, and related technical documents.
- Ability to define problems, collect relevant data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in a production environment.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure to support wiring, layout, and testing tasks.
- Comfort using hand and power tools commonly used in electrical and mechanical assembly.
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions, including visual aids and technical documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when wiring, labeling, and testing electrical components.
- Willingness to work 2nd shift after completing the training academy and to remain primarily stationed at an assigned cell unit.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with electrical schematics, electrical wiring, and electrical testing in an industrial or production setting.
- Exposure to or interest in control panel building, panel wiring, and industrial panel assembly.
- Experience or interest in electronics or electronic assembly, including soldering and electronic component handling.

- Experience with mechanical assembly or production work in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding or interest in lean manufacturing principles and 5S workplace organization.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team of technicians within a cell-based production environment.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to completing the full duration of the training academy.

Work Environment
You begin in a two-week, on-site training academy conducted in a classroom-style lab environment, where you learn safety procedures, electrical wiring fundamentals, standard protocols, and correct methods for reading point-to-point schematics and labeling wiring. Training combines paper-based learning with hands-on practice using tools to add ferrules, crimp, terminate, land wiring, and align wiring in panels for accurate tracing and testing. Expectations in the training environment mirror a professional classroom setting, with a focus on attentiveness, professional conduct, and adherence to safety and appearance standards.
After training, you transition to a production environment that is extremely clean and temperature controlled, working at cell stations with large, well-organized work areas. Each work cell typically consists of 5–7 technicians collaborating to assemble units according to detailed specifications, and all necessary tools and materials are provided on site. During the first week, you work a 1st shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, while attending the training academy. Following training, you move to a 2nd shift schedule, Monday through Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., remaining primarily stationed at your assigned cell unit throughout the shift to perform wiring and testing tasks in line with customer requirements.
