Staff Accountant

Staff Accountant Location: Gering, NE Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Staff Accountant to join our finance team in Gering, Nebraska. This role is critical to our continued organizational growth and will support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring financial compliance, and facilitating the integration of accounting processes following recent acquisitions. The successful candidate will take ownership of key financial functions, including financial reporting, account reconciliations, and capital asset accounting, while helping drive process improvements and modernization initiatives across the organization. Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Financial Integrity: Maintain general ledger accuracy through monthly account reconciliations, journal entries, adjusting entries, and balance sheet reviews for assigned entities. Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements and support regulatory reporting requirements, including FCC, NECA, PUC, USAC, VoIP, and E-Rate reporting. Capital Asset & WIP Accounting: Support capital asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and Work in Progress (WIP) accounting for fiber construction projects, including labor capitalization and GAAP compliance. Strong understanding of job costing concepts preferred. Process Improvement & Internal Controls: Assist in developing and refining accounting processes by documenting workflows, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring procedures are consistently followed. Projects & System Enhancements: Support future growth initiatives, including billing and accounting system transitions, implementation of new accounting policies, and process improvement projects. Audit & Compliance Support: Assist with financial audits, compliance reviews, and documentation requirements to ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory standards. Grant Reporting: Support grant reporting activities by preparing reimbursement documentation, maintaining supporting schedules, and ensuring compliance with grantor requirements. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. Experience: 2–4 years of progressive accounting experience. Experience in telecommunications, broadband, or an ISP environment is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP is required. Technical Skills: Proficiency with accounting software (experience with MACC, QuickBooks Online, or similar ERP systems is a plus) and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and a willingness to take ownership of new projects and responsibilities. Location: Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Gering, Nebraska area.
