Mental Health Associate - SRN Float Pool - Sharp Healthcare - Per Diem - Variable Shift

Hours: Variable shift starts from 1500-2330 or 2300-0730 with optional evening/night shifts. Shift length 8 hours. Pay: $27.85 - $33.39 – $37.40 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and market factors. Job Summary The Mental Health Associate works under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse to provide patient care in accordance with each patient's interdisciplinary plan of care, hospital policies, procedures, and unit/program guidelines. Responsibilities Assists R.N. with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. Considers age, cultural, psychosocial, and physical needs when providing care. Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, laundry). Performs patient care tasks such as urine specimen collection and EKG completion. Observes and reports significant changes in behavior, mental status, or physical condition to the R.N. Maintains ongoing communication with the R.N. during shifts and provides complete shift reports. Documents patient behaviors, vital signs, weight, intake, output, and sleep patterns per guideline. Provides patient‑centered care aligned with the Recovery Model and responds promptly to family and visitor requests. Assists with psycho‑educational groups, activity groups, and community meetings. Answers unit telephones, manages messages, and maintains the bed board. Inventories, orders, and stocks unit supplies; coordinates equipment maintenance. Supports unit environments: keeps nursing station and unit clean, organized, and ready for staff. Assists nurses in contacting physicians as needed and supports nursing station operations. Orients and mentors new hires and floated staff, including unit and program orientation. Serves on unit and hospital committees and workgroups as assigned. Observes and promptly reports unsafe patient behaviors per observation protocols. Uses approved de‑escalation and crisis intervention techniques to manage agitated, aggressive, or self‑harm behaviors. Monitors unit environment and alerts the RN of any safety hazards. Uses safe body mechanics and demonstrates knowledge of emergency and safety protocols. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. 1 year experience in a treatment setting with patients having acute or chronic psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) – required. Preferred Qualifications Some college coursework in psychology, sociology, communication, nursing, or related health care fields. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to speak, write, and comprehend medical terminology in English. Excellent verbal communication skills. Knowledge of the bio‑psycho‑social needs of psychiatric patients. Basic nursing and mental health care skills for acute psychiatric patients.
