Faculty Position – In-Residence: Endowed Professorship in Biocomputing, Visualization, and Informatics Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry School of Pharmacy University of California, San Francisco Position Summary The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) invites applications for a faculty member to lead the team that develops ChimeraX and to build an independent and collaborative research laboratory focused on the analysis and visualization of biological structures. The incumbent will develop a strong, grant‑funded research program and participate in UCSF’s 15 PhD programs and the School of Pharmacy’s MS and Pharm.D. programs. Responsibilities Lead the development of ChimeraX and related visualization tools. Establish an independent, grant‑funded research program in structural biology, network biology, bioinformatics or closely related fields. Direct the UCSF Resource for Biocomputing, Visualization, and Informatics (RBVI). Teach courses and mentor students across multiple programs. Engage in multidisciplinary collaborations and contribute to UCSF’s NIH‑funded projects. Required Qualifications PhD degree or equivalent. Strong record of publications in structural biology, network biology, bioinformatics or closely related area. Computer programming skills. Excellent communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Teaching experience. Track record of developing open‑source visualization software. Experience conducting research with multidisciplinary teams. Compensation The minimum base salary range for this position is $121,900–$319,800, according to the posted UC salary scales. The position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan, which provides eligibility for additional compensation.
