Police Officer II
Reporting to the Police Officer Supervisor, the Police Officer II provides the full range of certified law enforcement service. Performing campus policing to ensure the safety and security of the College, its students, employees, guests, buildings and property, the Police Officer II enforces applicable federal, state and local laws within the diverse environment of an urban commuter campus.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Providing the full level of law enforcement work, enforcing laws, rules and regulations governing the safety and protection of individuals, building and property
- Providing guidance or assistance to lower-level police officers and building guards
- Conducting training and continuing education for public safety personnel
- Responding to calls for assistance and emergency services and taking appropriate action
- Investigating incidents reported on the shift
- Assisting the Police Officer Supervisor in the management and maintenance of the department's inventory of evidence
- Performing or assisting in collection and preservation of evidence
- Conducting or assisting with surveillance and in serving warrants and summonses
- Preparing or assisting with cases for court, including testifying in court when necessary
- Interacting with college community and establishing a rapport with the public
- Providing the public with safety information
- Conducting community related public safety programs
- Collaborating with local and state law enforcement agencies when needed
- Directing traffic and assisting with crowd control
- Performing office duties such as answering telephones, dispatching, issuance of parking permits and providing general information

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 3 years' experience in certified law enforcement.
- Must be currently employed as a Maryland Police Training Commission Certified Police Officer; OR be formerly employed as such with a lapse in service no greater than three years; OR demonstrate ability to obtain certification as described in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR)
- Must possess an unrestricted noncommercial driver's license valid in the state of Maryland

- This is an essential/ emergency position
- This position is subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with COMAR
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 5 yrs experience working in law enforcement
- At least 2 yrs experience in Higher Education
