The Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) Office of Investigations and Security Services are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer II. Police Officer II is the full performance level of law enforcement work and performs the full range of duties with complete independence. Employees are subject to call-in duty during emergencies and staffing shortages and will work a rotating shift. Employees will be required to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Employees are required to carry firearms and to demonstrate, on a periodic basis, practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms. Responsibilities included: enforcing laws, rules, and regulations governing the safety and protection of personnel and State property; performing safety, patrol, and security duties in a motor vehicle or on foot; responding to disturbances and emergencies; issuing warnings or summons and making arrests; investigating accidents and criminal acts. Note: MVA Police Officers are subject to the Transportation Services Human Resources System (TSHRS) Policies and Procedures and are not afforded any rights under the Maryland Police Officer Accountability Act and/or Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights (LEOBR). Employees will be required to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Employees in this classification receive general supervision under a Police Officer Supervisor or Police Chief. Qualifications
Minimum Qualification: Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation. Experience: Six (6) months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer. Applicants must have completed all training components as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC). Notes: 1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article, Section 3-207. 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Protective Service classifications or Law Enforcement specialty codes in the Military Police Officer field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Licenses & Certifications
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess police officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions at the time of application. 2. Applicants formerly certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions as a police officer within the past three years who are eligible for recertification at the time of appointment meet the certification requirement for this classification. The recertification criteria are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.07, available at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions. 3. Employees may be required to possess or obtain a special police commission in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article, Section 3-209.

Special Requirements: 1. Selection standards for police officer certification are established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article, Section 3-207. These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.04 and include the following: U.S. Citizenship; Must be at least 21 years of age; Satisfactory background investigation, including a check of criminal history; Oral interview; Physical examination; Possession of a driver's license valid in the state of Maryland. 2. Employees are subject to call-in 24-hours a day and will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. 3. Employees in this classification may be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis, as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions. 4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
