Respiratory Therapist - PRN weeknights

About this Job General Summary of Position: Possesses and demonstrates adequate knowledge to provide respiratory care to all patient populations with technique appropriate to chronological, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Respiratory care delivered is ordered by physician according to established standards of practice and protocols. Schedule: PRN (as needed) – must have availability Sunday – Friday night 7pm‑7:30am. Responsibilities Contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adhere to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Assess the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of the patient, identify educational needs, and appropriately document. Perform all respiratory therapy treatments and services, including but not limited to: application, operation, monitoring, and management of all equipment and services provided—oxygen, mixed gas, humidity; monitoring; ventilators (invasive and non‑invasive); bronchial hygiene; lung expansion; spirometry testing; EKG machines; blood gas analysis. Employ principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing techniques, problem solving, and crisis intervention when performing patient care. Review electronic medical records and physician orders throughout the work shift. Respond to, perform, and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation by maintaining the airway, providing oxygen and ventilation via mask, endotracheal tube, or other devices, and performing closed‑chest cardiac massage. Facilitate workflow efficiency by monitoring interdepartmental systems and processes, departmental policies and procedures, and making recommendations for improvements as needed. Perform other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. Qualifications Education Associate's degree – Graduate of an AMA accredited program in respiratory care with an AAS Degree or higher required. Bachelor's degree – Baccalaureate degree in a related healthcare field preferred. Experience Less than 1 year of acute care experience. Registry eligible required. Licenses and Certifications RCP – Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner. Must process and maintain a license to practice Respiratory Care in Maryland and/or the District of Columbia based on hospital location (required). CRT – Certified Respiratory Therapist. Licensed as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) (required). RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) (preferred). CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation, including BLS and NRP for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 days (required). ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Certifications required within a year where applicable. Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of human respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology as related to respiratory care; knowledge of the operation of respiratory care equipment and its application in a clinical setting; ability to assess hazardous conditions related to respiratory care and take corrective action; ability to work with patients of all ages (neonatal to geriatrics); ability to remain calm and function under stressful conditions; ability to work well as a team member; articulate and communicate well with all types of people.
