Traveling Retail Construction Superintendent

We are seeking an experienced Traveling Retail Construction Superintendent to oversee the successful delivery of retail construction and renovation projects across multiple locations. This role is responsible for coordinating field operations, maintaining high standards of workmanship, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. Frequent travel is required, with assignments varying by project and location.


Key responsibilities include supervising general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and on-site crews; reviewing plans, specifications, and project schedules; coordinating daily construction activities; and monitoring progress against established milestones. You will conduct regular site inspections, identify and resolve construction issues, verify materials and workmanship, and maintain accurate daily reports. The Superintendent will also coordinate inspections, support permitting requirements, manage punch-list completion, and communicate updates, risks, and schedule changes to project stakeholders. Ensuring compliance with all applicable building codes, safety regulations, quality standards, and site policies is an essential part of the position.


The successful candidate will have several years of experience supervising commercial, retail, restaurant, or similar construction projects, preferably in fast-paced environments with active sites or occupied facilities. Strong knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, safety practices, and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings is required. Excellent communication, organisation, problem-solving, and leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in changing locations. Proficiency with construction management software, scheduling tools, email, and standard office applications is preferred. A valid driver's licence, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel extensively and work flexible hours, including occasional nights or weekends, are required. Relevant trade qualifications, certifications, or formal training in construction management will be considered an asset.
