Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Michigan Administrator Certificate (or ability to obtain)
- Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field required
- Minimum of five years successful teaching, school social work, or school counseling experience required
- Administrative experience preferred
- Experience working with at-risk, special education, alternative education, credit recovery, or non-traditional learners preferred
- Experience with online and blended learning platforms preferred
- Knowledge of Michigan graduation requirements, pupil accounting, virtual and digital learning, attendance requirements, and alternative education programming
- Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, and student intervention systems
- Strong understanding of school improvement processes, data analysis, and instructional leadership
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and collaborative leadership skills
- Commitment to educational equity, student success, and innovative approaches to learning
- Develops and administers school programs consistent with the school district goals and objectives
- Provide visionary leadership for Learning Options High School to positively affect the school culture by nurturing a safe and caring learning environment with high expectation for both academics and behavior, fostering a culture of belonging, engagement, accountability, and student success
- Personal commitment to academic excellence for all student's achievement
- Oversee alternative education programming, including credit recovery, dropout prevention, student re-engagement, graduation completion, and individualized pathways to success
- Ensures that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn current developments in the educational field through workshops, professional meetings, and self-directed research
- Lead all student discipline utilizing restorative practices, ensuring accountability while supporting student growth, relationship-building, and successful reintegration into the school community
- Lead threat assessments and coordinate appropriate interventions, safety planning, and follow-up supports in collaboration with students, families, staff, and community partners
- Encourages staff to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches and strategies to teaching
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and reporting for all student activities, attendance and records as required by law
- Coordinates the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit student's needs, including students with special needs
- Lead the implementation of MTSS, trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, and other student support systems
- Coordinates with the central office in recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues
- Organizes and conducts regular meetings with teachers for continuing development of instructional techniques Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
- Use academic, attendance, behavioral, and graduation data to guide decision-making, monitor progress, and drive continuous improvement
- Supervise, support, evaluate, and develop certified and non-certified staff while promoting a collaborative and growth-oriented professional culture
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, community agencies, post-secondary partners, employers, and district stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements, including pupil accounting, attendance regulations, graduation requirements, building and state assessments (MME, M-STEP, etc.), and alternative education programming
- Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies
- Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment
- Demonstrates continuing awareness of effective instructional techniques and communicates this information to staff
- Works cooperatively with other building administration to ensure quality programs
- Assumes responsibility for recruitment and recommendations to human resource office concerning Learning Options staffing
- Manage school operations, including budget, facilities, safety, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Collaborate with district leadership to advance strategic priorities and expand opportunities for student achievement and post-secondary success
- Keeps current of issues related to federal, state and any other rules, laws or legislation
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
