Manufacturing Supervisor - 1st Shift

We are currently searching for an experienced Manufacturing Supervisor to work 1st shift from 8AM to 4PM and will be based out of our New Bedford, MA facility. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this person will be responsible for supervising and leading a unionized workforce with an emphasis on teamwork, continuous improvement and accomplishment of safety, quality, delivery and cost goals.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and at least five years of previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

Responsibilities include:

• Active participation to ensure compliance of all environmental, health, and safety programs.
• Ensure compliance of all quality procedures and improve process and product quality.
• Achieve production goals to meet the production scheduling plan.
• Control of manufacturing costs to optimize labor, material, and machine utilization.
• Lead the Atkore Business System within their teams and utilize Lean tools for improvement projects.
• Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma programs as well as plant initiatives.
• Daily supervision of a unionized workforce.
• Manage vacation schedules and overtime.
• Train, coach, and develop employees to improve skills, performance, and engagement.
• Ensure proper training of new employees and meet cross-training program goals.
• Hold team members accountable for adherence to standard work, attendance, and performance expectations.
• Conduct performance reviews and provide regular feedback.
• Communication with all levels of the organization.
• Lead by example and live the Atkore Values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.

Qualifications include:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
• Five years of previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Must have schedule flexibility and be willing to work additional hours based on business needs.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to solve problems using Lean Manufacturing tools.
• Experience supervising a unionized workforce is a plus.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word and Excel).

Within 3 months, you'll:

• Complete your Atkore immersion program.
• Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
• Understand your team's strengths and opportunities.
• Gain an understanding of the products and processes.
• Gain an understanding of the training materials and procedures your team owns.
• Update daily production reports and KPI boards.

Within 6 months, you'll:

• Partner with Safety, Quality, and HR to investigate and provide corrective actions for any on-the-job injuries, customer complaints, and labor relations issues.
• Identify ways to strengthen the team's commitment to Atkore's core values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.
• Take full ownership of the shift's Lean Daily Management, including Tier 1 Gemba, and KPI boards.
• Fully understand how you and your team impact Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.

Within 12 months, you'll:

• Be managing an efficient team that meets or exceeds performance goals for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
• Create and update reports, training materials and procedures, as necessary.
• Drive Lean Transformation strategy for your shift. Drive and implement projects to improve SQDC.
• Have meaningful conversations with your direct reports to improve their engagement, alignment, and performance.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $ 75,360 - $103,620. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
