Shipping and Receiving Specialist

The Shipping and Receiving Specialist accurately picks, packs, and pulls orders based on daily warehouse packing slips and pick tickets, ensuring that all products are prepared and shipped correctly. This role maintains precise inventory records by performing manual counts and cycle counts, verifies stock levels, and confirms that physical inventory aligns with system data. The specialist uses computers and warehouse software to log inventory movements, generate detailed shipment reports, and process shipping labels through major carriers.

Responsibilities

• Accurately pick, pack, and pull orders in accordance with daily warehouse packing slips and pick tickets.
• Perform daily cycle counts and manual part and product counts to ensure physical inventory matches system records.
• Verify stock levels regularly and report discrepancies in inventory to maintain accurate inventory control.
• Log inventory movements in warehouse software and ERP systems to keep records current and reliable.
• Create and process shipping labels using carriers such as UPS and FedEx.
• Prepare orders for shipment, including packaging, labeling, and documentation, to meet logistics and customer requirements.
• Use computers and data entry tools to record shipments, receipts, and inventory adjustments.
• Generate and maintain detailed shipment reports and other logistics documentation as required.
• Handle materials safely and efficiently, including operating forklifts to move, load, and unload products.
• Support shipping and receiving activities by coordinating incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Provide basic customer service related to shipping and receiving inquiries, ensuring clear and courteous communication.
• Follow warehouse procedures and best practices to maintain an organized, efficient, and safe work area.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving operations in a warehouse environment.
• Proficiency in inventory control, including manual counting, daily cycle counts, and verification of stock levels.
• Ability to accurately pick, pack, and pull orders based on packing slips and pick tickets.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order fulfillment and inventory records.
• Forklift operation skills for moving, loading, and unloading materials.
• Experience using shipping systems and processes for carriers such as UPS and FedEx.
• Computer proficiency, including data entry and use of warehouse software and ERP systems.
• Ability to use Microsoft Excel for basic inventory tracking and reporting.
• Effective reading comprehension to understand packing slips, pick tickets, and shipping documentation.
• Solid writing comprehension and written communication skills for shipment reports and documentation.
• Material handling skills to safely manage and move products within the warehouse.
• Customer service skills to address shipping and receiving questions clearly and professionally.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with logistics processes and coordination of incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Experience in order selection, picking, and packaging in a warehouse or distribution setting.
• Familiarity with ERP systems for tracking inventory and processing orders.
• Ability to perform accurate manual counting over extended periods while maintaining focus.
• Comfort working with FedEx and other major carriers' online tools and systems.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain orderly storage and efficient retrieval of products.

Work Environment

This role is based in a small warehouse shop equipped with two forklifts, providing a focused and hands-on environment. You will work closely with a small team, allowing for direct communication and quick decision-making. The setting involves regular material handling, operating forklifts, and using computers and ERP systems to manage inventory and shipments. The warehouse layout supports efficient picking, packing, and shipping activities, and the environment emphasizes safety, organization, and reliability in daily operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rancho Dominguez, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
