P ROFESSIONAL O PPORTUNITIES POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT DEAN OF STUDENT SERVICES Los Angeles Southwest College DEADLINE DATE TO FILE: July 14, 2026 Issue Date: June 1, 2026 The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD)announces an opening for a Dean of Student Services at Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) . Interested individuals who possess the required training and experience are invited to submit an application for the position. LASC is located in southwest, Los Angeles, approximately 20 minutes south of downtown Los Angeles, and 15 minutes east of the Pacific Ocean. LASC is the hub of diverse cultural and educational activity in the southwest Los Angeles area. The College subscribes to the premise that the learner is at the center of what it does in creating opportunities, providing an environment conducive to learning and working, establishing a place where the discourse of ideas can occur, and where individuals can have experiences without sacrificing their individuality.Description of Position: The Dean will be responsible for providing leadership and administrative supervision of the following Student Services areas Foster Kinship Education, GATEWAYS Housing, Guardian Scholars, Health Center, International students, LGBTQIA+, NextUp, and Veterans. The Dean will work under the direction of the Vice President of Student Services. The Dean will manage with the coordinators' input the budgets and assigned staff, facilitate long-rang planning, program development and evaluation, and non-instructional program reviews for the assigned areas. The Dean will also interpret, articulate, implement and monitor compliance with appropriate laws, regulations, labor contracts and policies and represents the Division of Student Services on various campus, District-wide and regional committees.
Salary and Benefits The basic salary range is from: $175,206 - $206,448 annually. Employee benefits include 15.5 paid holidays annually, 15-24 days paid vacation annually depending on length of District service, medical/hospital, dental and vision care plans and a $50,000 group life insurance policy. Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Services, duties may include but are not limited to:
- Provide administrative oversight for the student service areas of Foster Kinship Education, GATEWAYS Housing, Guardian Scholars, Health Center, International students, LGBTQIA+, NextUp, and Veterans The Dean will work under the direction of The Vice President of Student Services. In accordance with college and district policies and procedures, coordinate the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of faculty and office staff within the areas of responsibility.
- Maintain appropriate quantitative measurements, statistical reports, and other records to assess accomplishments and future needs.
- Provide leadership and administrative direction for compilation and analysis of data to support campus efforts in development and maintenance of programs, including information on grants and other student success opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all collective bargaining agreements.
- Assist with the development and management of the areas' and programs' operational budgets, including various general and restricted funds. Ensure educational quality while working with the available budget by monitoring expenditures, account transfers and balances.
- Interpret, articulate, implement and monitor compliance with the California Education Code, LACCD Board Rules, Administrative Regulations, Labor Contracts, HR Guides and Personnel guides.
- Represent Student Services on a variety of committees and subcommittees under the college's participatory governance structure. Serves as a resource to the Vice President on issues pertaining to the stated division's departments.
- Serve as evening and weekend administrator on a rotational basis as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
- A Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Completion of one year of full-time formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.
- Sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Knowledge of curriculum, new program orientation and program development.
- Knowledge and experience in curriculum development, scheduling, enrollment management and compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Experience in providing leadership to core areas associated with the division.
- Experience working with both student services and academic departments.
- An understanding of the teaching/learning process
- Demonstrated leadership experience in planning, organizing and implementing instructional and/or student service related programs.
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting, articulating and implementing a variety of laws, regulations, policies and procedures including those related to student discipline.
- Understanding of and commitment to participatory governance.
- Sensitivity to changing student population, ethnic and cultural diversity within those populations and the academic programs necessary to serve these students.
- Knowledge of the management information needs of effective instructional programs and uses of various computer resources to meet these needs.
- Experience and demonstrated knowledge of budget development and implementation and accounting procedures for regular and Specially Funded Programs including development of audit trails.
- Possess personal characteristics necessary for working with students, employees and the public in an administrative capacity including: stability, good judgment, tact and the ability to cooperate with coworkers.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to produce reports and other necessary documents.
- Strong commitment to student success.
- Three years of increasingly responsible experience related to the assignment.
- Ability to communicate professionally and clearly with students and staff, both orally and in written form.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with on-campus groups (including students, faculty administrators and staff, as well as off-campus community and educational partners.
- Experience working as a team member on departmental committees and campus-wide groups, and with community leaders.
General Requirements Health: A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense after selection and prior to employment
Eligibility Requirement: COVID 19 VACCINATION Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. - Selected candidates will be invited for an interview following the committee screening which will involve an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications in the areas of training, experience, and personal fitness.
- Based upon the selection committee report, the college President will interview the recommended finalists and will make the final decision.
- The Chancellor will recommend one candidate to the Board of Trustees for appointment.
